Is there any way to buy the guitar hero 3 guitar sans guitar hero 3? I'd rather have the guitar and guitar hero 2.

I want to slightly Hijack this thread. I have a PS3. I want to get the best GH bundle or guitar combo that will provide me with the most compatibility. I understand that the wireless guitar in the GH3 bundle for PS3 will not work with older GH and GH2 games made for the PS2 if I play them in my PS3. is that true? Since I haven't bought any of them, what is the best bang for my buck (I want a wireless guitar).

Thanks
Cal

Nothing works entirely correctly for GH 1 and 2 on a PS3. The only real way to play them is on a real PS2 (or a 360 for GH2).

This is true.

Anyone try using the Xbox 360 Les Paul on GH2? I'm finding it very hard to activate star power on this, pretty much have to hold the guitar vertically to activate. I have had no problem with this in GH3.

I've had no problems with the Les Paul on GH2 on 360, other than the occasional fret buttons dropping out because of the neck wiggling, which is incredibly frustrating but has nothing to do with GH2 or 3 specifically.

On a related highjacking note:

1) Does the guitar that comes with the Xbox 360 GH3 also work with Rock Band, and vice versa?

2) How hard would it be to get PS2 guitars to work with a 360

(we have a 360 but not a PS3, but we have 2 PS2 guitars.)

Thanks

1) yes and no, respectively

2) Impossible

But my understanding is that Rock Band's "special features" aren't supported on the GH controllers, whatever those are. My understanding is that they aren't necessarily essential to gameplay.

So use the GH controller for bass.

Which is yet another exhibit in the ongoing case of Gamers v. Sony. We'll have them declared legally stupid soon.

Yikes. so to have 2 full functioning guitars for both GH3 and Rock Band I'd have to buy -2- more guitars in addition to over $200 for the 2 games? Hmm...

If you have a 360, to have 2 full functioning guitars for both, you should buy:

GH3, game and guitar bundle: $100
GH3 guitar of some flavor by itself: $?? (I haven't priced them recently)
Rock Band bundle: $170

So you're looking at ~$350, which is pretty crazy even to me, the guy who now has six different game guitars over two console platforms. When you consider it all at once like this, it's numbing, but when I bought GH3 for $100 a month ago, and the Rock Band bundle now, and I bought the 360 guitars back when GH2 came out, it doesn't feel as bad individually.

To anyone new to these games entirely, I'd suggest the following plan of attack:

Rock Band bundle. Out of the box, you've got multiplayer for three.

When you next feel ready to drop some change, get Guitar Hero 2 or 3 bundled with a guitar (assuming the still sell the GH2 bundle). Now you get a whole new game of guitar parts to play on your own, and you can play a four person band in Rock Band. You won't be able to play GH multiplayer, but you've still at least got a great multiplayer setup in Rock Band.

Then finally get a second GH guitar when you've got the funds if multiplayer for Guitar Hero still appeals to you.

I'm wondering if the 360 GH3 guitar (Les Paul) will work on the PC version GH3, cause I sure as hell isn't gonna buy the crappy leftover Xplorers they couldn't sell for the 360 so they had to bundle them into the PC kits.

Heh. I now have five toy guitars for the same console (two X-Plorers, two Strats and one Les Paul).
