I'm curious to see what people are doing with their custom class slots. Here are mine. Sidearms will not be noted, since they're all just silenced M1911s because that's the best thing I have. I'm fiddling with these all the time of course, but these are the overall roles I'm trying out.
Insurgent:
AK-47 (currently silencer, but usually red dot)
Stun grenade
RPG-7
Stopping Power
Martyrdom
Well-rounded assault class, with copter hunting applications. I'm currently using stun grenades on most of my loadouts to see if I fuck myself up any less than with flashbangs. The silencer is a test to see how much it fucks up my accuracy and if the stealth gain is worth it.
Full Frontal:
M4 (grenade launcher)
Smoke grenade
Stopping Power
Martyrdom
Similar loadout, but I use this one a bit more for Domination and smaller/choke pointy maps.
Ack Ack:
M249 (red dot)
Stun grenade
RPG-7
Stopping Power
Deep Impact
I think the RPD is my favorite LMG overall, but I'm currently leveling the M249. Debating Sleight of Hand in place of Stopping Power. Was using Martyrdom on this one until recently, but I want to see how Deep Impact works out overall.
Headshot:
Dragunov (none)
Stun grenade
Claymores
Stopping Power
Iron Lungs
I'm not big on sniping overall, but there are definitely situations/maps where it's good to have a sniper loadout on hand. Debating using the M16 with ACOG instead.
Rainbow:
MP5 (red dot)
Stun grenade x3
Stopping Power
Steady Aim
Fun close-quarters class. I had a lot of fun on that map with the two big apartment buildings going into the one the enemy snipers had laid claim to and cleaning house. Might switch to a silencer when I unlock it.
Until posting these up, I hadn't realized that I had Stopping Power on every single one of my loadouts (for perfectly legitimate reasons). I have to wonder if Juggernaut might help on Insurgent or Full Frontal. Sonic Boom might work decently for Full Frontal as well.
Any thoughts on my loadouts? Loadouts of your own? Post 'em!

This is a great idea; I'll have a closer look at your loadouts and post mine when I get home.

I'm fond of using bandolier with weapons I know I tend to run out of ammo frequently. (skorpion I'm looking at you)
I tend to favor stopping power with assault rifles and sleight-of-hand with the LMGs.
I had a lot of fun with a silenced Ak-74u depending on the map.
Still switching between weapons pretty frequently.

MP4 with ACOG
Stun grenade
Claymores
Stopping power
Steady aim
Great for decent sized maps with buildings. Can use the ACOG to basically snipe across the map, and use steady aim to fire from the hip in close quarters. The ACOG does decrease accuracy over range, specifically it doesn't lock at longer ranges, but with stopping power, I only need to hit them with a few bullets.
AK-74u with Red dot sight
Stun grenade
Bandolier
Stopping power
Steady aim
My newest and favourite loadout. Great for maps like Crash, Bloc, and Strike. At close range, it's just brilliant. You know those situations where you walk into an area with two guys and you hurt both and kill neither before they get you? No longer a problem with this loadout. Steady aim means I can pull the trigger first, without having to aim.
M16 with ACOG
Stun grenade
Claymores
Stopping power
Martyrdom
Still one of my favourites. Great on Bog and Countdown. Awful on maps with buildings and mazes of side streets and alleys. God awful on Vacant, hence martyrdom, which sort of evens it out a bit.
MP5 with silencer
Stun grenade
Stun grenade x 3
UAV Jammer
Steady aim
There's really only one map I use this on, the map with the street with buildings along each side. I spawn, run all the up one side as fast as possible, take out any snipers setting up, cross the street, and run back down the other side where I can usually catch a number of enemies facing the other way. Of course, on a map like this, there are a tonne of martyrs, so juggernaut really helps there. Although stopping power probably wouldn't be a bad idea.
Um, the second shotgun you get, with Red dot sight
Stun grenade
Stun grenade x 3
Sleight of hand
Martyrdom
I basically only use this on Vacant, and if you've played Vacant, you know why.

All my setups are pretty similar.
Assault
Whatever assault rifle I am leveling or feeling the need to use with red dot.
Deagle (in all setups other than stealth)
3x frags (good to get enemies out of fortified positions or cooking for campers)
Stopping power (or Double Tap for M16)
Martydom (always worth 2-3 kills a round)
Defense
Same as assault but a different rifle with red dot, maybe acog if it is a bigger sniperish map.
Claymores
Everything else is the same
LMG
Whatever LMG I am leveling or RPD if I am going for max kills with dot or grip.
Claymores if no grip.
Juggernaut usually (have also tried stopping power, sleight of hand, overkill with varying levels of success depending on the weapon)
Martyrdom
Stealth
AK47 with silencer (why tromik uses the MP5 is beyond me, the range must be like 2 feet with the silencer plus low power with no stopping power perk, the only good stealth weapons are IMO either high power or high range if not both.)
Silenced Pistol of some kind
3x Frags or Claymores or Explosives Detection (if you are rooting out people in a fortification)
UAV Jammer
Martyrdom or maybe Last Stand (people are usually so surprised to see you you have a chance to take them down even if they get lucky and kill you).
With that stealth setup I can go usually at least 2-1 or 3-1 kill ratio on free for all (just keep circling the map and looking for the red dots of people making noise). It also has it's uses when your team is getting dominated and the other team has their UAV up all the time you can circle people and surprise them.
CQB
Whatever SMG I am leveling or the P90 (maybe my favorite gun in the game) with red dot.
Claymores
Stopping Power
Martyrdom
I have only used shotguns a bit, sometimes throwing them in that CQB setup. I am pretty hopeless with sniper rifles but have tried an AK/M16 + Sniper with overkill that isn't horrible. The fact you have to get 100 kills with the sniper to get anything doesn't help.
Oh and the M16 I still like quite a bit even though it is a baseline weapon. The G3 seems pretty god damned worthless to me. Being single shot only I can never seem to get a lot of kills with it. I have the 150 kill challenges done with all the rest I have unlocked to this point but it is painful for me to use the G3. I will use the M16 every time over it. The M14s I have picked up off the ground seem better as well, more powerful. So I am looking forward to getting that at (47?).

The fact you have to get 100 kills with the sniper to get anything doesn't help.
Not to mention why you would want a different sight on a sniper rifle. I lost all interest in those guns when I figured out what the rewards were.

I don't have the weapon stats in front of me, but you do move faster and can run run further with an SMG. The silencer does completely kill the range, but since I'm using the buildings and alleys, and I usually get into close quarters combat. The firerate and damage is decent enough that I can point, shoot and kill someone before they realize I'm in the room. And the accuracy is incredible at close range - combined with steady aim it's like playing DOOM. Also, I rather like the iron sight on the MP5.
How you use the AK47 as your stealth gun is beyond me. You must run into a room, stop, line up the shot, and then fire as everyone is turning around to look at you. God forbid if you miss that first shot.
I could see using any of the other SMGs and maybe the MP4 as a stealth weapon, but I really do like the MP5 for this loadout, even though I prefer the AK74 for regular run 'n' gun. I seem to do alright with it so no point in stopping now.

How are they going to know I am there? And how do I miss when they don't see me? The key is I can meet someone at medium range and take them down 1 on 1 as well as stealth kill people using an AR. It just adds a lot more versatility. In a similar situation with a silenced subgun you are pretty much toast since your shots are going to be like gnats at that range.

If I'm going the silenced route, I either want the extreme range of the g3 and m14, or the extreme mobility of a smg.

Except I don't fire at range. And I'm so quick I can close the distance before they get the first shot off. I've ran a lap around a building and caught the guy facing the other way, I'm so quick.

I've been experimenting with the shotgun. Last night there was one guy who was just running around behind enemy lines like crazy killing everyone on my team with a shotgun. So I finally said what the heck and picked one off his corpse, and it worked like a charm. Except I make a shotgun class today and it was not nearly as effective. But thinking back, I think I might have had stopping power and steady aim last night, and been using juggernaut and steady aim today. So I'm going to try shotgun with stopping power and steady aim and see if it is has the hot knife through butter effect I experienced last night.
By the way, what's the difference between stun and flashbang? What are they better for than each other?

The stun grenade doesn't disorient vision for nearly as long, but it impedes movement and slows you down. It also appears to interrupt things like reloading and throwing nades. Flashbangs just blind - as long as they have a decent idea of where to go, they can haul ass away at full speed.
One of the more interesting (and in hindsight obvious) tactics I've seen recently is to throw a frag and the follow it with a stun grenade. I can imagine that's a near guaranteed kill.

Flashbangs slow you and blind you, and if you're severely wounded, they'll kill.
M-16 + ACOG Scope (sweet muthafuckin' digital camo)
3 special grenades (flashbangs!)
Double-Tap
Martyrdom
That's really the only kit that matters, unless I'm trying to unlock challenges.

I play a lot of Headquarters right now, and here're my setup for that
M16+ACOG(Digital fucking camo hell yeah)
RPGx2(Will probably switch this out with extra frags when I get that)
Sonic Boom
Martyrdom
The sonic boom/Martyrdom combo is insanely useful because I wind up dying on the fucking HQ point way too often and that gets me a ton of goddamn kills. Also helps with the frags I throw in before I go. Thinking about switching the RPG out for claymores or C4 because I almost never see choppers in Headquarters unless it's from someone sniping on Bog and Bog has the most brutal choppers ever.
I've also got the same setup with an M4 instead of the M16 because that's one of the guns I'm levelling up now.
Nengjanggo

I think the RPGs are pretty useful for non-chopper duties. I like them for taking out snipers I can't quite see (by shooting the edges of the windows they are sniping from) and for dudes around corners. A couple of times a MG has been covering a corner I've been hiding behind, so I hit fire on the RPG then popped around the corner (b/c of the delay on firing) for an instant and then back.

I've been having the most fun with
M1200 (shotgun)
2x RPGs
Sleight of Hand
Martyrdom
Though I think I'm going to try out this one I just built:
Uzi
Smoke
2xRPGs (for long-range attacking, hehe)
Juggernaut
Martyrdom
So I can just run in guns blazing and leave a little present when I die.

I recently grabbed the G36 and love it.
G36 w/ RDS
Three frags/Bandolier
Stopping power
Deep impact
The other night, while playing hardcore, we all used silencers and UAV jammers. I had quite a big of success using
MP4 w/ silencer
Bandolier
Double tap
UAV jammer
The MP4 doesn't have the stopping power of the G3 or M14 (which I don't have, yet), or the mobility of an SMG, but it's decent at range and in close quarters. Plus, I really like the iron sights on it.

Ok, that's twice you've talked about the MP4. What weapon are you actually referring to? The M4, or the MP44?

Long range setup:
G3 + ACOG
Claymores
Stopping Power
Penetration
Short range setup:
MP5 + red dot
Claymores
Juggernaut
Martyrdom
Usually take stun grenades as my extra.
Also fun:
M60 + red dot
Claymores
Stopping Power
Penetration
Go ahead try to take cover!!! ;)

I find myself using Claymores a lot now that i have finally reached level 23. I tend to camp way to much, so i need them to watch my back a bit.
Could anyone enlighten me as to why the digital camouflage is so hot? Does it improve gameplay or is it just cosmetic?

It's worthless up close, but it's powerful and pretty damn good at medium range. And teamed up with an ACOG it can be used as a sniper rifle too. But, yeah, make sure to try to pick up a decent secondary rifle/gun for those close range battles.

Yeah, since then I have gotten better. I just have to pull the trigger faster it seems. I fire, hit, then rapidly hit the trigger faster. I still haven't maxed it out but I hit 55 so I think I am cashing in anyway.

It is not much good close in thats for sure, on more cramped maps I always opt for the MP5 instead, however it does fire quite quickly and with the double tap perk it actually becomes quite deadly even at short ranges if you have good twitch aim.

Assault - (currently my favorite)
G36C w/ red dot
RPG
Juggernaut
Extreme conditioning
IsawU (my lmg loadout - used to be my favorite)
M60E4 w/ red dot
bandolier
slight of hand
steady aim
Close Combat
Mini-Uzi (w/silencer)
Bandolier
UAV jammer
extreme conditioning
Sniper
R700 (Sniper rifle)
M1014 (shotgun)
Claymore
Overkill
Ironlungs
I really enjoy the closecombat one because the silencer combined with uav jammer makes me pretty undetectable and extreme conditioning is great for getting out of a place once they do have you pinned. I might change the uzi though since it chews up ammo pretty quickly

Anyone notice that people are much less chatty in COD4 than Halo 3? I notice that I talk a lot less; I think it might be because it's harder to say anything useful, because the maps are very hard to describe, whereas in Halo there is always some very salient landmark to use as a referent. Frustrating because I like the teamwork aspects of games like these, and I really enjoy the guns in this one.

When playing with strangers, yes, when playing with people from here or other friends no. We talk it up.

Once you've played a couple of domination rounds on a lot of the maps, A B and C become the standard meta references of the sort you seem to be looking for. It was difficult for me to grasp at first that when people said "restaurant" they meant, you know, that thing that actually looks like a restaurant vs some arbitrarily named point. I really like the fact that the levels are (mostly) different enough within themselves for such distinctions to be easy. Fortunately, the Qt3 regulars have no such problems, and I usually just follow their lead.
But, yeah, there's still a lot of "look out, he's behind the car" "WHAT FUCKING CAR?" going on for me. I've only been with strangers that are too talky, never had a problem with silence. The question is whether they are saying useful things, which is unlikely. I know when I replay the things that come out of my mouth during a game sometimes, I wish I'd just muted myself.
Domination, though. That and sabotage get you intimate with the levels quickly. Also good for early experience, as well.
