YMMV. Fun real time PS2 action/rpg. Yes, it's got all the usual japanese characters and conventions. For $10 I like very much! Supposed to be about 100 hours long.

(It had the yellow sticker on it at Kmart. Was $39.95.)

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check my local one tonight.

Whoa. Thanks M.S. Now to find a K-Mart that has not been shut down.

Damn, paid $35 CAD for this used a while ago! This is fun, but is a very typical JRPG ie painfully trite story, awful (OMG) dialog and tedious action. The fast paced action and nice realtime combat save it though, IMO.

It has the sort of awful final battle that there need to be legends about. The plot is...wow. I can't wait to see reactions. Let's just say Xenosaga III looked pretty damned good by comparison.

Other than that, the combat is ok, the random encounter sort of system is agreeable enough, and it's relatively painless if a bit easy. I can't imagine playing it for a hundred hours, or much more than the 36 or so I did, but then again I took one look at the "postgame" and said fuck off after a little while.

I was overjoyed to play Rogue Galaxy. Level 5? I love those guys and what they did in Dragon Quest VIII! Sci-fi RPG? Awesome! Voice actors like Kari Wahlgren (Ashe in Final Fantasy XII), Steve Blum (Spike in Cowboy Bebop, Vincent in Advent Children) and Yuri Lowenthal (everything released in the last ten years)? I love good voice acting! Plus, Will Friedle's the lead, and I used to watch Boy Meets World. He was also Batman in Batman Beyond. So he's pretty good, too!

I finished the game because I bought it as a birthday present to myself. Plus I'd spent forty hours on it already, maybe the ending would salvage it.

It is the worst ending I've ever seen in a video game.

I don't think I liked a single character by the end.

Easily the worst game I've played this calendar year. Gameplay was kinda fun in places, but holy crap what a bad plot.

I also didn't enjoy fighting enemies in the jungle planet hoping for an item with a 3% drop rate to drop so I can unlock the starting skill for Kisala. That part sucked.

Oh yeah, the skill system. Ha ha. Good luck playing your ten dollar purchase without the 15$ guide! (I know, gamefaqs)

The guide's pretty good, though. Rarely did I have to go hunting in some random place to find out how to get item X. It's a well designed guide.

I sold the game and kept the guide.

(Actually, I just forgot the sell the guide too.)

If anyone would happen to purchase an "extra" copy during their travels, I'm happy to pay shipping to my home. :)

Yeah no joke. I dont think I have a single Kmart around me. I'd be willing to do the same.

I thought rogue galaxy was a step backward from DQ8, I agree about the plot and characters felt very derivative. The factory and bug fight mini games were the best parts.

I thought I remembered everyone talking about some other fancy game mechanic with blueprints and making items and stuff. (Maybe the factory that pfreak mentions). In the end, is that just too small a part of the game to outweigh the negatives mentioned above? It seems we had a lengthy thread (which I will dig up) filled with people enjoying it.

You know what else is funny? Trading it in for 50-100% more than I paid for it when I'm done.

The game's quite enjoyable and I don't know why people are down on it now. It must be cool to dislike it suddenly. The weapon leveling and synthesis, plus the use of item combinations to enable skills, make progression fun.

It is the Qt3 effect.

It had a lot of potential and things that were enjoyable in a grindy kind of way. I mean, I didn't get all the way to the end for nothing. But the plot and characters were sub par even with the JRPG margin of cliche/fruitiness in full effect, and the final battle (along with not a few of the bosses) was abysmal. Those two things stand out as significant problems in retrospect, and the percentage drops had a knack for being really irritating. Had it not come out during a relative drought in games, I seriously doubt I would have completed it.

Never make a game with a dog human hybrid who's more emo than that guy from FF8. Never. Just don't.

I didn't like it much, but for $10 it's worth a whirl.

And the thing is, that was the best part of the game! At least there it tried! Failed, yes. But tried.

The final battle was bad, but not the worst thing ever. I think the extra planet added for the American release, where you teach sharks and guppies to just love one another, was the worst thing ever.

His only saving grace was that they included that hacker piece of crap for me to hate more. And retarded dilemma powersuit man was pretty bad as well.

Come to think of it, they make Jailbait McMommyissues and Gay Pirate look pretty good in comparison.

Yeah, that probably was the low point. If I were to draw a suspiciously similar analog from a much better game, the Ariel levels in KH2 were a similar WTF drop in relative production values.
But the difference was I was nowhere near as fed up as I was when I got to that final boss.

Sweet, I scored the game at the local Kmart. Plus this is the first time I've been in this store and it's a gold mine. The relatively tiny case is so crammed full of games that they're all spine out; there's no room to show the fronts of the boxes. Also there are absolutely no prices anywhere. You have to get someone to open the case and scan the game to find out how much it is. And yet the selection is pretty good, including recent stuff like the Orange Box.

I'm making a list of clearance titles and heading back tomorrow.

I finished it and therefore enjoyed the game but it was dangerously close to a meh. For $10 though you can't really go wrong.

The absolute best part of the new world was the fruity bike messenger slash pirate costume you got for the main character. That thing was an abortion.

Even though I liked the real time combat over the turn based in DQ8, I thought the cast of characters in DQ were more likeable then in Rogue. Are they planning on making a sequel to RG, as the game had one of those endings?

I did manage to finsh it, and I got to the bonus dungeon but that was it for me.
