I've been thinking. There are far too many cool things out there that are possible but nobody has done.
My brother's girlfriend recently had contact lenses inserted into her eyeballs. I also remember reading that some cellphone company has invented a liquid lense that uses tiny electrical currents to change focus. All the technology is there, so why can't I implant these lenses and have a zoom control for my eyeballs? It would sure as hell be useful for perving at the beautiful women who walk outside my window at work every day...
Maybe I should patent this idea.

CONTACT LENSES INSERTED INTO HER EYEBALLS?
My mother wanted lasik, but there wasn't enough of the stuff to cut into, so she has multifocus permanent lenses inserted there. The lower part is optimized for reading and such and the top for far viewing.
Your desired kind could be just around the door.

Zoom eyeballs would be cool, but I'd settle for a pair of nice sunglasses with the same function and a tiny usb storage device built in so I could record anything "interesting" I might see while walking around downtown, or on the beach, or at the game.

"Now the car that Harrison Ford had in Blade Runner.. that was a cool car."
"Well what's its competition? Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?"
Bah, that's not a flying car and even if it was it's not affordable by the masses ie me.

How about some freakin' "occupied" signs for public bathroom stalls??? You can tell when someone's in the Port-o-john, but in my office I have bend or crouch to look for legs. Its 2007, people, we can't come up with a more dignified way?

Screw flying cars. They'd be too risky (car breaks down, crashes on houses/people/into a building, managing "air traffic"). Flying cars will never happen.
We need to skip it and just go right to teleportation.

CONTACT LENSES INSERTED INTO HER EYEBALLS?
Yes thats fairly old technology... but it isnt contact lenses per definitionem its more like new artificial lenses...
A busines friend of mine had new ones with the age of 64... he is able to see in the same qualitiy as he was in his youth...
I agree, I want teleportation.

Citywide, moderated forums/chat rooms where all citizens of a city, all 10,000 or 100,000 or 10 million citizens can go chat and discuss local problems/events/politics, etc. Someplace well organized and moderated/run by the city.

Not to shoot for the moon after your fine, reserved suggestions, but how about a backspace key over on the keypad? Hmmm? Maybe after they're done with teleportation?

When they're done with teleportation, you can just put a little finger-sized portal over near the keypad where you want your second backspace key, and put the exit portal over the normal backspace key. This might keep you from using the backspace key normally, but if you have one of those extra long backspace keys, you can adjust to it.

Seriously? We have this incredibly advanced technology here: A bolt to lock the door, but on the other side, an indicator that shows whether the stall is occupied or not! Example. Don't forget that you and I both live in the future. I'm sure they'll get it some day.
