I passed it tonight.
Lame ass enforcers prevent anyone from actually dancing at the event.

I was there, didn't have any way to get to the internet though, sorry I missed this thread.

The Wil Wheaton opening speech is worth a listen. (MP3 link over at Penny Arcade). He does a great job reminiscing about the good old (gaming) days.

Hordes of geeks fighting the man for dancing should be something on YouTube, stat!

The correct phrase is, "Lame ass bouncers kick the shit out of kids who try to dance."

For shame.

I don't get it. Why were people trying to dance at a gamer con? Why were they prevented? What evil lurks in the hearts of men?

So the PA lackeys beat up dancing kids?

This will all blow over as long as the PA guys can do something to conclusively prove that people who play video games aren't just violent creeps.

I know! They can start a charity that sends games to sick kids!

I was working staff, but I don't know the details, and I wasn't at the concerts. Therefore, I don't see why people would have been prevented from dancing unless there was a problem with the fire code or something. Or unless your dancing was so bad that it was causing the universe to warp.

I think my favorite moment was the deeply, deeply, deeply stoned crazy guy who stumblemumbled about wondering why they did it, you know, the setup? That he wasn't going to sue, even though he could, and did they have any questions for him? And, uh, "am I being paranoid?"

At the peak, I was pretty sure that Mike was going to bolt from the stage like a spooked rabbit.

I didn't get to see any staff beating up bago, though.

The dancing thing, I'm pretty sure, has to do with city code. You have to obtain a "cabaret" license in order for people to dance in a buisness.

It was set up to prevent raccous parties (and the inevitable fornication) from breaking out in any buisness in the olden days, and in more modern times to prevent people from staging raves in any buisness they wanted.
