View Full Version : Shot Club, Part Four

At first, we're very careful to keep the empty shell casings in a pile on the firing line counter. But once we realize the other shooters' shells are flying wildly and skittering onto the floor, we just empty the revolver like in Rainbow Six, tipping the gun back and letting the spent rounds clatter to the concrete like peanut shells at some family restaurant with indoor picnic benches and pitchers of cheap beer.

Pretty soon you're going to start describing the dresses you were all wearing for four chapters then Trevor will start tugging on his braid and then it will all be over.

Tom, you've got a typo at the very end:

"I'm like the Smith & Wesson "

Pretty sure you meant "I like . . ."

Out of curiousity, did any of this arise from that Big Brother thing you were doing a while back? Seems like I remember you soliciting firearm safety advice. BTW, it's very good. While I can write about guns more knowledgably, you're kicking my ass in writing, period. Practice, practice.

I opted not to take my Little Brother to a shooting range. I gave him a Lord of the Rings board game for his birthday instead. Which he'd been even less impressed with if he knew I was considering the shooting range.

I'll talk more about the specifics next week when the last part has run. It's mostly based on something that I saw happen at a shooting range maybe nine or ten years ago. Suffice to say I didn't invent any of the core events.

Unnecessary, I assure you.

This is one of those stupid semantic things that might not matter, but what the hell.

A handgun like a Sig .45 uses a magazine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magazine_%28firearms%29), not a clip (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clip_%28ammunition%29).

Pretty cool though that you talk about only loading six rounds into the mags for the Sig, since I do the same damn thing when I shoot my Sig. My gamer thumbs are also too weak to push the seventh round in.

Did anybody else actually do the 15 degree angle thing with their arms while reading it?

Anyone? Anyone?

Bueller?

Movies and games have taught me that you are WROOOOOOOONG.

Yeah. Same shit for a 40 cal baretta/glock.. I did end up finding a way to squeeze the last two bullets in with a bit of work. Took me like... 10-15 filled clips to figure it out though.

Funny you wrote this one up though Tom, I grew up with a father who was a big time hunter. I've eaten some strange things at the dinner table due to that but that's a tangent. At any rate, I went hunting a few times but it just never clicked with me.

Sometime in my early thirties I went shooting at a range with some friends and found it to be extremely enjoyable. Five handguns later (wow how did that happen) I'm nearly 40 now and I still love to go to the range and shoot. I'm no gun nut by any means, all my guns are registered and the last thing I would ever want to do is kill another person, even someone that broke into my home. But strangely time at the range is very rewarding and I think it relieves a lot of stress as well. I see whole families there sometimes, there is a father/daughter team there that's kind of strange to watch. Either way it's a nice dose of reality compared to whipping out the MP5 in Rogue Spear and spraying your name along the wall. Plus, I find myself picking the guns I've shot before when I do play the games, kind of a nod toward the fun I have at the range.

For whatever it's worth, it's a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

That's next month. Trevor discovers Creme de Menthe and vomits on Douglas while the Narrator makes comparisons to Bioshock.
