Hey all,

I have a very old, ancient by technology standards, receiver. It works well but only has one coaxial (SPDIF) and one optical (TOSlink) input. This was fine for the time I bought it, but now... well I got my Xbox 360, my cable box, and my DVD player. I have been looking online for switch boxes that do the job but the ones that handle optical are manual, which I want to avoid. So does anyone know of any decent boxes that will do this? I don't mind getting one with video inputs and using only the audio pieces, as long as its (A) not too expensive (or I might as well just get a new receiver, which I can't afford), and (B) has a remote or auto-sense. Thanks for the help.

The cheapest option will be a new receiver. A separate switcher is certain to cost more.

Another option is an old receiver. Coax and optical switching receivers have been around for 5 years at least, but people who bought them 5-2 years ago will be getting rid of them to buy new receivers that can switch HDMI. You can bug your rich friends for a hand-me-down.

I bought the manual switch and treat the process of getting up from my couch and switching digital audio between my PVR and my XBox as exercise.

One day I'll replace it. but not this day.
