Been taking my little dog (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?p=1030615#post1030343) out on the bicycle lately for short runs, usually about a mile each way with long rests in between. So far I've been taking the sidewalks and riding one-handed, holding a long leash in my free hand, which works well so long as I'm careful. He has short legs so I don't want to give him a heart attack and run him much longer or faster. Then today I found something (http://www.springerusa.com) that will fix some of the issues involved with that approach. According to a friend it's kind of a pain to install, works best when attached to the seat post contrary to the instructions, but works very well once it's set up

I'm still seeking a carrier that can hold a 20 lb. dog so that I can bring him on longer rides. Some of them look great but are either too expensive (http://www.road-hound.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=6), are not rack-mounted (http://www.cycletote.com/) or are not enclosed (http://www.cynthiastwigs.com) as I would prefer. I'm also looking for a hard enclosure. Anyone go down this path before and have any ideas, creative or otherwise?

Creative idea:

Get roller skates for your dog, and then simply tie to the back of your bike. Maybe even a skateboard as well.

A much safer idea:
Get a basket for your bike and put your dog in it (assuming it is a small dog and the bike can have baskets attached). It will be like a car ride to him.

Get a basket just like the wicked witch of the east!

The open basket could definitely work but I assume he might feel safer enclosed, being the den-dwelling animal that he is. Plus it's far too feminine for the look I'm going for, even adding doggles to the mix.
