I was going to say, "Yay, something to tide me over until Bioshock: a big fat patch for Beyond the Sword (http://www.firaxis.com/downloads/Patch/Civ4BeyondTheSwordPatch3.03_B.exe)". Now maybe I can dig into a game of Final Frontier, or see what sort of things Firaxis has in store to address complaints about espionage, or whether corporations are unbalanced, or maybe whether they're building in some of the AI tweaks users like Solver have offered.
But apparently the patch does fuck all (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=238028). :(

Well it's a beta after all :)
Here's what it lists:
- Fixes User Account Control Vista issue
- Includes correct version of DirectX
- Updates GameCoreDLL version

They didn't even include Solver's fixes, or the most important ones (espionage, inflation, marathon). :(

A "real" patch is coming, but we have some more things we're putting into it and it needs to go through certification. Creating a version of the game which had a working copy of DirectX was the first priority. ;)

Cool. :)
I assume it probably had something to do with "Games for Windows" then.
I was reading on the forums at civfanatics that say that the new patch can cause a CTD when viewing the civpedia, can anyone confirm that?

I can! But as the guy who first posted this on CFC I'm not sure what this is worth. I initially thought it might have something to do with the Blue Marble mod I had installed but others confirmed this exact same crash that don't even have that mod.
Steps to Reproduce:
1) Pull up some nifty unique unit or building for a given Civilization in the Civilopedia.
2) Click on the link on this entry to see the normal unit or building it replaces.
3) BLAMMO (to the Desktop, Robin)!
If this isn't fun enough I confirmed another guy's report that they'd somehow disabled the paratrooper drop animation. Now when they drop you'll just see him suddenly appear in the space running quickly in place (hmm, actually I wonder if this is linked to using quick moves?).
