No, they're just stupid. Words like "a", "the", "of", are all dropped in acronyms. It's USA not USOA, and PRC not PROC.

The fact that you linked to an AOL affiliated article is just the means to prove that they are wrong.
Its Rofl. Hence: roflcopter, not Rotflcopter.
Also: Roflmao. Not Rotflmao.
I think this qualifies as the most retarded argument of all time.

Are you new to the Internets? You think this is retarded?

The most retarded acronym is "KK" Everytime I hear it I picture some impatient person saying "okay okay!"
Here's some recommended alternatives:
OK - Not much more difficult to type an O.
'k
k - you can drop the apostrophe is you like.

KK could also derive from CC - 'click click' from flight sim type games, relating to how pilots will confirm an order with two radio clicks rather than broadcasting. Which is pretty cool I reckon :)

I totally agree with this.
When I right 'k', its usually like "Yeah, I got it". 'kk' means 'Yeah, I'm going to do it, hold on one second.'

k is passive, kk is active is what I should have written, Yea, you got it though, especially about the "hold on one second." If a friend is walking me through something technical via IM, if he gives me an instruction, I wirte kk, and he knows to wait until I'm done with the task.

Rofl can be pronounced, much like lol, whereas rotfl is not as speech-friendly. Thus, rofl is the preferred terminology.

My k vs kk usage is roughly approximate to the yes sir/aye aye sir usage in the navy/marines.

Everyone should go to the Urbandictionary entry for "kek" and thumb down the definitions attributing the origin of the word and the associated kekeke to WoW. There are other, less popular, but correct definitions attributing it in general to Korean gamers.

This must be the exception that proves the rule. If we dropped "the" we'd have WF!!?!?!
Not as powerful as WTF!!?!!?!11!!one!!!
I've never even heard "kk" and it's more or less retarded.
I also dislike "ldo" immensely. I'm crotchety.

I agree with ROFL being the 'common' usage, but Weird Al uses ROTFL in his 'White and Nerdy' song, I believe. And it isn't nice to argue with Weird Al.

No, it isn't nice to argue with Weird Al, but what he said is:
"I memorized the Holy Grail really well...I can recite it right now, and have you ROTFLOL"
IMHO, most people just say ROFL rather than ROTFL for the short form, and ROTFLOL when it's REALLY, really funny. You know, Like, Weird Al.

I've never seen ROTFLOL, in my experience people escalate from ROFL to ROFLMAO

Back in the late GEnie/CI$/BIX pre-Internet days, people typically used "ROTF," ROTFL, or LOL. The T was dropped around the time the AOL hordes ruined the Internets, I think.
