It's amazing - I think the pressure has got to them and they just totally cracked up! :-)
I like it as some sort of avante garde, art school short film. The production values are fantastic and it certainly draws you into want to know more about the characters (which is the idea obviously - you are supposed to go and explore the thisisliving.tv website)
But as an advertisement for an expensive games console??? Might have missed the mark I think. You dont even see Darth Vader's medicine cabinet once.

Clearly you are not sophisticated enough to deserve the privilege of enjoying a PS3.

The character vids are even more out there :-)
One good thing I suppose - the advertisements are clearly targeted to a 21+ age demographic. (Maybe even 30+)
Nice to see that Sony is willing to admit that a lot of gamers are over 18 and target ads accordingly. Of course people over 18 with full time jobs and no dependants are the only ones who can afford a PS3!

There's an actual demographic this is targetted at? How did they determine that what this demographic really needs, in order to be convinced to buy the PS3, is a guy tossing off in a sock?

Lots and lots of drugs during the "creative" process would be my guess :-)
Oh yeah, the pretty girl having a dump on the toilet fetish is back too! Someone at the marketing company is a very naughty boy!

Uh what? I think the campaign just screams "15-20 year old males". I can't imagine any 30+ years old getting excited about the PS3 with that ad.

From the crazy military guy one:
"One man's living... is another man's dying!"
So at least the pot-smoking marketing guys have a grasp on how well the PS3 is selling.

So... we thought about it. And we decided that instead of spending millions on advertisements and consultants who tell us to cut ads that never actually feature our products, maybe we should CUT the price of the PS3. Please discuss and get back to us.
Thx

Did you miss the creepy crying baby commercials from 6 months ago? Whoever is greenlighting their commercials is clearly batshit insane

I wonder if the bozos who made this commercial were among the 100 laid off at Sony USA this week.

Posting the same thing twice, in different threads, trying to get a reaction is an issue, sure.
It's, as far as I know, a fansite not run by Sony whose only standout feature is its silly name.

You obviously haven't really read the site. It's quite amsuing. The guy that posts figures everyone has it in for Sony and by proxy himself as well. Speaking of persecution complexes...
P.S. - Thanks for pointing it out again and falling victim to my nefarious scheme.

Bonus points for being the weirdest advertisement I've ever seen, and having the chutzpah to show naked chicks, but WTF?
Then again, it was enough out there I was riveted. What were they selling again?

I thought it was really well produced. It's not selling me anything but it sure as hell was interesting.
At the same time, I've already got a PS3 so... yay?

I'd definitively buy the movie, but not a PS3 (yet, MGS4 is still a few months away...
When is it coming out? (The full movie)

Bill Harris (http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2007/06/console-post-of-week-out-of-control.html) has seen the latest Sony commercials:
The last sane person who works at Sony is getting drunk. He's just seen the pederast segment, and when the lights came up, he walked out of the office and directly into a lonely, smoke-filled bar down the street. As he lifts his shot glass for the fourth time in fifteen minutes, he says to himself, "I miss the days when we just showed people masturbating."
Like I said, someone at Sony had to actually vet these segments. And the fact that these videos have the Sony stamp of approval are just another example of a games division that is totally and absolutely imploding. Everyone at Sony--everyone, at least, who has anything to do with the public--seems to have gone stark raving mad.

Hasn't Sony's European marketing always been similarly weird, though?

SCEA has some weird ads too but SCEE's ads have always been off the wall. I have the impression that SCEA hates SCEE's antics (this, the kinda official blog, executives making comments that SCEA then has to deny, etc).
I also remember Acclaim's European office having insane ads.
