The other thread on this has dissolved into community relations chaos, so I'm starting a new one.

I've barely gotten to play with it, I admit it. But just trying out the "Danger Room" for an hour today was very satisfying. For a patched feature, it's pretty polished with lots of options, a good interface, and a smooth conclusion sequence for each skirmish battle. Of course, for a feature that was *required* at release, maybe that's not so impressive.

I'm not one who prefers skirmishes in my RTS' or requires them to be there for longevity purposes. The reason FF needed a skirmish mode was because you couldn't try out custom characters without it, outside of multiplayer mode. If you recruited them to try them in the single player campaign, you couldn't modify them later without experience points.

So, for a late feature, it still manages to go above and beyond. I've been really enjoying Freedom Force and this addresses one of my main issues. Now to see if the patch fixes the occasional glitches with clicks on targets not registering...

This was one of my biggest complaints with FF. I am glad to see they fixed it. I will have to go download this tonight.

The Danger Room addition in the patch works well. I'm having a total blast making characters and running them through various maps in Battle Royale mode to see how far they can get. I think my best <=10k point character made it to wave 13 before he died; he was a melee brute that could unleash an electrical explosion area blast centered on himself, and had a 75% chance to deflect piercing, crushing, and electrical due to his metal skin.

My Mad Bomber character managed to level the entire "Small Town" map in Battle Royale mode by wave 4, simply through the use of his explosive multiple air-spawning grenade attacks. Then he managed to blow himself up accidentally by wave 5.

It's good - the patch managed to totally renew my interest in Freedom Force.

I have to agree, the patch (which takes freaking forever to install) completely transforms the game. The "battle royale" mode is great. I created a few sub 10kers to see how well they would do then created a team of 4 sub 10kers that made it to level 33 before being taken out. The score on those levels is balanced by how many points you bring in so I just barely topped my best score with a single character.

For laughs I created UberD00d defender of all that is kewl. He cost somewhere over 700k to build with attacks such as the Pwend Punch and the 1337 Ray and a shield that was pretty much impervious to everything all the time. It was entertaining to have a beam with max damage and knockback that would throw enemies across the map and occassionally knock down buildings with their impact. :)

Great Patch! Its great having the chance to test out all the heroes and villains.

So far my highest score of any of the skirmishes is like 480k. I made a copy of Photon and she went thru 25 levels of battle royale by herself (15k hero). Cyclops did well too, I made him with a 40k ray of death (55k hero)! Next stop is Havoc. I love the ray attack heroes!

I played more of this last night. I created a very very low point (like 315) hero that I managed to knock out 2 people with and got a score of 480k. I also had my best run with a hero called Little John (sub 10k) whose maxed Acid Annihilation Area attack was devistating. He was also outfited with a passive shield making him 90% immune to piercing/crushing/acid/cold in all forms but direct. His final score was over 2 million after 110 KOs and making it to wave 23 on the random danger room.

That is some sweet stuff. I made a guy called "Blasthole" that was maxed on all stats with all good special abilities and powers that were maxed on damage and effectiveness with no cost. He had a maxed energy beam, 360-degree ice punch, air-spawning fire projectile, area radiation attack, and piercing direct attack. He also had 85% redirecting passive defense to all attacks in all forms. I think he was around 500k. I got somewhere around round 20 or so in battle royale before I just got bored using him
