Too bad, they had the balls to give Puzzle Quest the rating it deserved.
[waits for it]

I think the last time I read an issue of NP was in 1992. I do have some fond memories of those early issues, though.
T'was always a glorious day when a new issue of NP hit the mailbox back in the NES days.
I'd even read the special strategy guide issues cover to cover despite not even owning the game. I've still never played Ninja Gaiden 2, but I can totally tell you how to beat the third boss!
About 2 years ago they did a redesign and they were touting it as a more "grown up" magazine. I got a trial sub and it was okay, but because 2/3's of the coverage was for the Gamecube, I gave it a pass. The DS stuff was cool though.
When I became both a DS and a Wii owner, they gave me another trial 3-month sub, which seemed kind of exciting. I figured I'd have another look and probably subscribe. I read the first issue, kind of. It was really written for 12-year olds.
So I went with EGM, which at least feels like it's written for snarky 16-year olds.

That's a shame. Gamehead (the TV show) just did an entire show at the nintendo power headquarters, too.

Seems about right. Game Life, I think, found the magazine's advertiser pamphlet and they clearly said they targeted younger Nintendo fanboys.

I don't think this rumor is correct. Nintendo Power is the perfect marketing tool for Nintendo and closing the mag would only be Nintendo hurting itself. I have always subscribed because they practically give it away anyway, letting you have a free player's guide and year subscription for just $20. Plus, the mag has always given the attention to Nintendo consoles that other mags haven't, and scoops things all the time (like Wii Nights just recently).

Talk about nostalgia. I used to love the magazine, and its two page side-scrolling map keys.
Pure heaven.

Local Redmond rumor is that Nintendo Power is for sale... They offered it to Ziff-Davis, but Ziff's busy trying to sell itself.

If they do sell, I'd hope it goes to Future.

First The Computer Gaming Twins, then Dragon, now Nintendo Power?

Before you know it, they'll be cancelling Compute's! Gazette, the bastards.
Heard .info was going under, too.

The magazine has been pretty great the last couple years. They've had some superb interviews with various Japanese developers in there. It's also one of the last magazines to offer strategy and tips for games with full maps of levels.
The reviews aren't necessary, but it seems every video game magazine has to have them.
If it does go away, it'll be a bummer. I'm still bummed about CGM. :(
I've been subscribed to NP since 1990. I liked how their subscriptions had strategy guide deals with them. They just started doing interviews with developers. I thought their reviews (with the exception of Puzzle Quest) have been pretty good lately. I remember before it felt that every Nintendo published game got a great score automatically. I've been entering those player's poll contests for at least 15 years now, and haven't won one yet. I really hope that the rumor is false.

Bummer--my three months ran out recently and I was going to re-up (in spite of the puzzle quest review...).

Will they give out the Nesters before its cancelled?

I used to love those nester comics, actually most of the comics they printed in the magazine over the years were pretty good. I remember Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Mario and Wario, were there anymore I'm forgetting?

They ran a lot more, including Custom Robo.
