It's wrong; there are way more than just 19 stages. There are over 500 (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=15721).

It's like when you get notices that say 'No unauthorised persons beyond this point'. Well, in which direction??

Seems pretty obvious how it works. The earliest responders are going to be the people checking blogs most often, i.e. the fans of the blogger, the people most likely to agree anyway. Then as a post gets linked around, the opposition, the people who wouldn't likely read the blog on their own, show up and weigh in. Then the in no way limited to the internet nature of people being basically jerks takes over. Rinse, repeat.
