I can hardly believe this story. A couple of IT professionals get fired when they tell on a scum bag that has 100,000 child porn pictures on his computer.

Like the bad party guest that can't get the hint when you turn off the lights and say "party is over, time to go home and I am talking to you Bill". I think we should introduce Bill to the method that got a certain makeup covered band member off our forums at POE.

Let him post. Let him rant. Let him spam. Then every so often, just delete a post of his. Be it a post like this, or an attack post. He will never know, should I bother responding? Should I waste 5 minutes typing something (i know the answer to this one as bill has wasted a lifetime haunting Derek, what is another 5 minutes). After a few weeks, our little forum pest had enough, while I am sure bill could last out a few months, what the hell, it doesn't hurt anyone else.

It also causes people to never bother responding to the troll, because who knows what thread will be deleted. So what do you think?

I believe that Chet is trolling, at least by my definition. He bounced into the thread and tried to (and succeded to) totally change the subject to the topic that is claimed that "everyone" is not interested in. If he wasn't interested in the topic of the Derek Smart Flame Wars then what did he really hope to accomplish by his little troll? Don't misunderstand me here though, I believe that the change he made was for the good and made the thread much more entertaining.

Now before someone claims that I've done the same troll, the difference from my point of view is that my posts have always been directly responding to at least a part of someone else's post. My view is that what has actually taken the threads off topic after that is the reaction of others. Now don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed it and find it most amusing. I believe that most others also find it amusing and that of course contributes to the whole silliness and enjoyment factor.

Regarding the issue of protecting Derek, I think that your characterization is true plus the fact that it has become a fun activitiy and an interesting "plot" that people have become interested in. I don't think that it explains Chet's behavior though. Chet expressed his fervent hatred for me when I first started posting. It seems obvious that Derek considers Chet a protector and it appears to me that Chet even considers himself Fraudman's protector.


Here's a note to any newbie's that might be reading this thread. Don't let Chet's threats make you think that QT3 really does stuff like he threatens. That kind of gestapo tactics really don't go on here. I think that Chet just got a little over zealous and was trying to make himself look big powerful and scary to me. If Chet was free to do absolutely anything he wanted to here then there might be a chance that it would happen but I'm not even sure of that.

6. A few others add to the delightful atmosphere of the thread.
7. I show further great restraint by only responding to two relatively innocuous posts with my own innocuous responses.
8. Chet uses one of my posts to form an additional personal attack directed at me.
9. I respond to Chet's attack but remain impersonal and even thank Chet again for his most amusing and successful trolling.
10. DennyA makes the absolute best post in the whole thread. (In my opinion, of course)
11. The Captain makes a most thoughtful post.
12. I respond to the Captain's post. I remain as concise, direct, and on topic as I could.

I repeat, what instruction have I violated? I have not rambled on about your academic fraud, your forging of racist email, your silly threats of lawsuits, your many attempts at threatening the livelyhood of others, or any of your other many transgressions. I believe that I have been respectful, concise, on topic, and have been careful to not scare newbies away from QT3.

Another note to newbies of QT3, contrary to Mr. Smart's rants and calling Tom a wuss for not banning me, QT3 is really a friendly place and I believe has only banned one person in their whole history. I realize Bill is like the forum whipping boy, but I have to grant him that this thread started as something that had nothing to do with Derek. He did reiterate all his anti-Derek stuff a few posts later, but that was in response to people egging him on about it. I don't get it. There are obviously some people--Chet more than anyone--who hate Bill so much that they want him to just leave, no matter what he's posted. That apparently stems from Bill's history with Derek on various boards and Usenet groups. I'm not familiar with that history. But I do note that almost everyone on this board has agreed to let the past be the past in Derek's case and folks are happy to have Derek here posting, regardless of what Derek might have done on other boards or the Usenet (I'm not really familiar with Derek's history either, except by anecdote). Sometimes Derek's an asshole on this board, but people ignore it and nobody tries to ban him, because people feel that he also contributes legitimate posts. I don't understand why people don't feel the same way about Bill. Maybe there's some good reason. What is it? Is it just because he's made a pathetic crusade out of chasing Derek? Who cares?

That post you linked, I responded to Tyjenks who had responded to K-Smart. It was a very short explanation to Tyjenks describing that Derek has said on a number of occasions that he was going to publish a Scientific paper. IIRC
