The best part is that it's not fiction!

My take:

Fuck you congress for even passing this law.

Fuck you executive branch for abusing this law and taking it beyond the purpose it was intended.

Fuck you people who have received national security letters for not coming forward and having press conferences about the content of your letter. What would immediately happen is that bad press would leak out all over, several members of the executive cabinet if not the president himself would be immediately forced to resign and there would be protests until you were set free.

Am I crazy for believing this or would people just let librarians, bookstore owners, and bank tellers rot in jail for revealing that the government was going through all your personal records for the purpose of finding out if you were purchasing cuban cigars or gambling online and such other minor infractions that the nation security letter scandal seems to imply that the executive branch is doing?

This shit...I don't even know what to say or where to start. This is total and complete bullshit...that this is allowed to happen.

I am with you on this one. People need to start talking.

For those who say "Then you let the terrorists win..." I reply with this...
The fact that this is happening in our country means that the terrorists ARE winning.

I think that this issue was dealt with at a certain level today, during the Mueller hearing. It sounded to me like they basically handed him his ass and said "Go unfuck yourself".

One of the things being passed around was the notion that the FBI should have its domestic counter-intelligence dissolved and replaced with another agency (such as the UK's MI-5) better suited for the mission.

My opinion is that it would become total bullshit. How many agencies do we possibly need? How much bureacracy can we pile on this? When can we accept that the Patriot Act has holes in it and needs to be fixed? I honestly believe that this can be fixed--that a balance can be found. A balance which does not inflict or impose itself on the American people and their rights.

The FBI has abused its power because it can. I have been in this situation and have had the power, and I understand its lure. I also understand the arrogance and the trip that comes with it.

On the same note, I truly believe (in a non-paranoid neocon mindset) that there are people trying to harm our country, and need to be stopped.

I hope that the future will turn out better than it looks right now.

I've always said the FBI should not have national security functions. It will inevitably be abused.

Is that non-paranoid but still neocon or non-paranoid and non-neocon?

Just curious.

Use your head! How should non-paranoid but neocon work?
