View Full Version : The "Who's Breaking The Street Date?" Thread

OK maybe I already have this thread, but let's make it for Supreme Commander AND for Crackdown.

Anyone seen either game for sale early?

Because this 2/20 street date for BOTH games -- RIGHT AFTER the dream three-day gamer marathon holiday -- is SADISTIC, WRONG, UNFAIR, IMMORAL, and MUST BE OPPOSED by all right-thinking gamers AND RETAILERS.

Post your reports of the Fine Souls who are nobly trying to give the people what they want, without bowing to the iron yoke of Microsoft.

(Duh, it's really because they couldn't get full production going in time for all the stores to get the game before the weekend, and duh, the official street date is really to try to prevent favoritism. DO YOU THINK I GIVE A SHIT? THINK AGAIN, JACKSON. Sometimes luck deserves rewards. BIG FAT FUCKING REWARDS.)

Pfft. The 23rd is the "street date" here in the third world. I'd be happy to see anyone sell
it ON the street date, even. It's about time they sold big 360 games by digital download :)

How often do street dates get broken? Personally, I've never seen a game on the shelves before the street date... and does this usually happen at smaller retailers?

I've seen mail-order doing it frequently, although it's just a matter of trying their
best to get it to customers by the street date. One local store sometimes is
a whole week earlier than the rest, but then it's because the others are a week
later than local street date :(

I saw WoW:BC at a small game store the week before street date. The Collector's Edition even.

I got FEAR 3 or 4 days before its street date, from a local clueless Wal-Mart. So, to answer your questions in order: occasionally, and not necessarily.

There are a whole bunch of people on my friends list playing Crackdown, and I'm fairly sure they aren't all game developers/journos, so somebody must be breaking the street date.

Its not showing the demo?

If they have achievements (and some of the achievements are pretty quick to get, I seem to remember), it's not the demo. Marsh, grill the bastards and spill the news!

There's 4712 people with achievements according to mygamercard.net.

Just checked Walmart and Target while I was out buying Drano (damn clogged drain) and neither of them had broken yet.

Aaaah, fuck it. Microsoft wins. Just went in person to a nearby Wal-Mart, EB, Best Buy, Toys R Us, and Target. None of 'em had Crackdown out. Called Circuit City just now, "it's out on Tuesday."

The capper, though, is I called another local Wal-Mart, and THEY said, "Oh, yeah, that game. We just tried to ring somebody up with it, it came up as Not For Sale, and we had to send 'em all back. Yep, they were all recalled." Looks like that store got its whole allotment pulled or some shit.

So, forget it. Looks like the Man has got the retailers by the balls but good these days. See you bastards on Tuesday. (hopefully!)

... not that this should kill this thread if anyone DOES see it anywhere, though :-D

I just asked my local gamestop if they were geting Supcom on Tuesday- 0 copies.
0 copies??? Of course said store also didn't have a copy of the WoW expansion so go figure.

I agree that it majorly sucks, but I just got The Wire Season 2 so I will be fine. Also, I need to put in my new CPU for SupCom. Generally I think retailers are loathe to break street dates nowadays, since word gets out so fast across the internets.

All this "street date" BS does is encourage folks to torrent the games.

I might just order it from the cheapest online site I can find today, and see
when they manage to have it in my mailbox. They should in theory have them
in stock now, and just mail out in reasonable time. Not going to find it in stores
tomorrow, anyway :/

Oi. called EB Games, told em I wanted it. They said they aren't selling any of the initial shipment to anyone who doesn't have a preorder.

Can I preorder over the phone? nooooo

Thats retarded. I had my credit and everything ready. Some serious BS...

So, I'll go to Target. Sure, I can't just trade in my games like I do at EB for a new one, but Hell, they told me that as Long as I called Monday morning, I'm guaranteed a copy on Tuesday.

Best buy says they will have it on Wed- I'll wait the day- with a bonus DVd of Chris Taylor giving mission briefings- whatever that is.I'm guessing it is tips and tricks stuff, not him reading the dialog.

Supreme Commander is $42.88 at Target. They should have it in by Thursday.
