I don't believe this is a real shot.

The Broussard claims it's a real shot, but it looks like a pic of an action figure to me. In fact, I think I see someone's hand/fingers in the bottom left of the pic.

The only way that would be in-game would be if someone shot a video of a Duke Nukem action figure and put that in the game.

I'm not sure how a screenshot proves anything about this game's schedule considering 3D Realms had a three and a half minute trailer/demo video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlIBgRf_Ym0) back in.... 1998.

Ditto - it looks like something he posted as a joke.
"no, it's real see? *holds up Duke action figure"
It's legit. He posted as such on Shacknews.

I don't think him posting that makes it a slam dunk that its legit. The history of DNF is littered with shady proclaimations and promises made and broken to various publishers. I wouldn't trust Broussard as far as I could throw him, and that isn't very far because he's pretty fat.

At a guess it is a screen shot, in that that's what's running on the monitor in the background.

My theory, it's a real screenshot because DNF is now a tabletop game.

I guess I'll reconfirm what I said last night. That's an in game, real-time shot of Duke standing in a random hallway. It was really done as a small teaser for a job ad on Gamasutra.com. Nothing more.
I'm glad some of you enjoyed it, and we'll show more later as we start to wake from our slumber and decide how best to show the game off. (http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showpost.php?p=480010&postcount=629)
So there.

The ad is indicative that the game is progressing well. According to the job listing, they just have to hire some programmers to write the engine, rendering, networking, gameplay, AI, and physics code and they’ll be gold!

and we should believe him why?
Why would he lie? It's not like he has a publisher breathing down his neck demanding progress. If they didn't have a real screenshot to show, they could have... not shown anything, and no one would have been surprised, or cared.

At this point people talk about it not because of wanting the game, but more because of some sort of morbid curiosity. Kind of like talking about Grimoire, or even BC3000 (while that game did eventually come out I'm pretty sure the "online version" had more players).

I'm about as curious about this as I am about playing a Daikatana sequel.

If that is an in-game shot, it looks like something from a full-motion-video clip.
Perhaps he just copied a screencapture from some FMV clip they had comissioned previously to be used in the game at one point.
Wow, so many fanbois on the 3DR forums. Oh, I liked this version of the mysterious screenshot:

action fiugures tend to have joints, so unless it's a mcfarlane style DN fig that was also never released or photographed, ever, it's a screenie.

What exactly would a screenshot prove, anyway? I saw a VIDEO of DNF years ago at E3. A screenshot is a big step back, actually.
Moore
01-26-2007, 06:01 PM
Well, the video was super long ago like when gta3 was shown on the show floor. (I recall playing it and looking up to see the dnf video, I remember it so well because its the only gta that was playable by shmucks like me at any e3 ever)
and it was much worse quality than the shadows etc.. in that pic
I'm expecting prey with evil dead ripoff one liners and (bad) potty humor at this point, so I'm not super excited.

Well, he USED to have publishers breathing down his neck, until they got so sick of his lies that they just took a complete write off on their involvement.
So why, again, should anyone believe him?

I don't see any reason not to. Clearly it's a screenshot of something. Him telling the truth about this shot doesn't make the game any more real, though.

I'll believe it when I see a copy on sale at the local CNA. Until then I regard the entire DNF episode as some practical joke that has gone on for too long.

What's funny is that Duke was a valuable property a decade ago.

Just.... 'acquired' the old Duke Nukem 3D. Hadn't played it in years. Sadly, compared to what I've been recently playing (Halo 2, Rainbow Six Vegas, UT GOTY >_>), its almost a complete mess.
Either way, I have a Duke Nukem Action Figure (Oh yes. I also have the Pig Cop), and it doesn't look much at all like that. It came with the Rocket Launcher that had two barrels, one on each side, and I believe a Machine Gun. Not positive on the last one.
So, its probably a Screen Shot.

Id love to see Duke Nukem 3D show up on XBLA. Loved DM in that game. Shrinking your bud and then stomping his ass is to this day my most satisfying DM kill. Tricking him with the holo Duke and a pipe bomb was good fun too.

A Duke Nukem Action Figure on my desk would be cool. We don't have any of this fun stuff here :(

There was an article on Joystiq about this some time ago. It actually spurred my friend into saving for his 360.
Maybe in due time. It'd be the greatest XBLArcade game they could EVER attempt.

You'd think 3D Realms would do it just to offset what has to be mindboggling costs for DNF.

And, of course, vice-versa.

Come on now the game's been out for three years now.
Only Bill Gates, Tom Chick, the Pope, and George Bush get to play it though. It was a secret project made by the most elite team of game designers and programers for only the elite leaders of society.

Swings, Realdolls, Sybians, and other essential tools don't come cheaply. The average person doesn't have the disposable income for a sex dungeon. I can't even afford a sex breakfast nook.
However, I just polled a bunch of poor people, and they told me it wasn't too bad.
Edit: Just to set this on-topic, last year I did predict a DNF release for Veterans Day '07. Could happen!

So what HAVE they been doing to generate money since DN3D? Is Broussard still sleeping on a pile of cash from way back then?

Well, Scott Miller's been investing his money in a restaurant that's not Baja Fresh. Maybe the fast food business is good enough to fund DNF development for another ten years.
I wouldn't look for DNF in 2007. They just had another development team quit a few months ago. That tends to reset the clock to zero. Maybe 2008 or 2009.
