TL;DR

Sony PSP site has a top banner ad for Gran Turismo HD. The only problem is that the image they're using to advertise GT HD is taken directly from the PGR3 website.

Whoops!

Ebonstone? I saw his name on some forum recently though it might have been GAF. K0ny of course being the obvious guess, but I've definately seen Lord Ebonstone somewhere.

The funniest part of this are the accusations from Sony fanboys that an Xbox 360 fanboy must have hacked Sony's site and swapped in that graphic.

No, the funniest part is the pspudpates.com banner on the right side. Ummm does sony know what kind of site that links to and what kind of files it hosts?

Just go to http://psp.connect.com/ and check it out yourself

They are wink-wink on that shit IMO. The psp's security is crap (or they are idiots), there are custom firmware (the super duper amazing non gimpy video, full ps1 library and able to run UMD titles from memorystick one) installation tutorials all over the official sony psp forums (which are moderated, but those tutorials stay up, I think one is even stickied)

also, it's silly but I giggled:

It shames me, but I've never seen The Goonies from start to finish. I did know who that was, though.

Also, apparently, their latest (3.03) psp firmware just got busted open. So shortly NO psp's on the market or produced right now that can resist custom firmware installation. And it's sony's fault, the old gta exploit wasnt properly patched or something.

It's ridiculous how much bad mojo they have at this point. It's constant and you never know what the monthly hits sony will take. I'm a little weirded out at this point.

I don't think that busted firmware is bad mojo. Or at least, on the scale of recent events, it's not nearly that bad.

I mean, PS2s get modded, XBoxes get modded, 360s get modded and we don't think of it as bad mojo. It's not something to trumpet, but apparently the official Sony forums quietly accomodate the practice so they can't consider it a nightmare.

Well it's really simple with a psp, and it removes the exclusive ps1-to-psp feature that is only on ps3. That alone drives people to try it. After that any UMD that enters that psp can just be ripped. So kids that borrow each others games? They can basically just install the game and hand back the UMD. It is only tricky to set up if you do it manually (the legal way because no sony softwrae is getting ditributed) if somone creates the data file for you, you just put it on your memory stick and load it up. In the new one's case you DO need an old copy of GTA:LCS though, so it's at least a little tricky (find that copy of the game, load the savegame, wait)

It certianly cant be GOOD for sony.

Also, UT3 just got confirmed for 360.........

dannimal

Right, but you either need to buy a bunch of memory sticks or keep borrowing the UMD to re-rip. After buying a PSP to being with (have they been around long enough that Sony is no longer losing money selling the unit?), even. And of the firmware modding population, how many of them never buy anything for their PSP?

It could be good (but I'm not going to make that argument), I'm just saying that given the impact of XBox modding, PS2 modding, and 360 modding on the respective consoles, I don't think this is all that big a deal (esp. compared to all the other crap that's happened with the PS3).

Losing exclusives on the PS3 hurt more than firmware being cracked, I'd think.

A bunch of.. what? A $40 2gb stick is larger than a UMD. 4gb sticks are also cheap.

Maybe my perceptions are weird since I've always been into the psp crap for the emulators, but recently (after the ps1 fiasco) there a LOADS of newbies on forums and it seems to take them about a day to get from asking about running ff7 to saying 'wait, wtf, I can just drop psp games into the /iso/ folder and they just work?'
