Awesome. (http://www.destructoid.com/playstation-3-kiosks-freezing-up-on-purpose--28860.phtml)

"So dude over there," I said pointing to the busy clerk, "says he keeps the kiosk off because it keeps freezing up."

"Nope. No it doesn't."

"Well, actually, yeah. It does. I've seen it happen myself."

"No. It doesn't. We did that on purpose," he said.

"You make the entire console lock up on purpose because ... why?"

"We do that so that people won't play it all day long," he explained. "Specifically during Motorstorm, we made it freeze up a lot."
Admittedly this isn't really a Sony rep, but just the monkey they send around to service the demo kiosks. Still, it's amusing.

"Happy Holidays," I said.

"Oh, hi! I'll be done here in one second and then I'll turn on the unit so you can get a glimpse of the future."

"Oh, I know all about it," I said, trying not to laugh. "I have the future at home. In my closet. Still in the box. Trying to sell it. No takers."

Forced, lame.

Best comment to the article was this, I guess in reference to the Sony retail staff:

Dave, shut up.

The entire thing was either horseshit or they actually have a writer who travels the world tensed up like a cobra waiting to lunge at the chance to work jabs at the PS3 into every word out of his mouth. None of it is funny, I wish people could just lay off it.

He cares about the board in general, and these console fanboy war bullshit threads are fucking up the place. Anyone who objects to any negative reporting on any console is accused of being viral marketer and a supporter of K0NY.

Telling someone to "shut up", on either side, is a shitty argument to make.

Yeah, the billionth time the K0NY superslam is loosed upon the boards I ask you to shut up because it's a new and frightening level of horrible. Then I deflect your attempts to use it on me by pointing out it's not about the hardware. It's about people who are obsessed with the hardware and convinced it can be the vehicle to turn them all into superstar comics.

Dave Markell
12-31-2006, 09:35 PM
I suggest you read my last, oh, 2000 posts. Guess how many are "obsessed about hardware"? I'm not a fanboi for any gaming rig, though I do find K0NY hilariously transparent. You have the wrong target.

I'll be honest: I really hesitated joining qt3 because of the "pile on the noob" mentality I saw with regards to KONY who, although not a particularly elegant poster, is neither a viral marketer nor the second coming of Koontz.

It'd be great if qt3 could reach a better balance of people who like to stir up shit goofing on each other, and sincere posters being able to talk about what they like without getting slammed like an outhouse door. I doubt these boards would have the traffic it does without one, but it wouldn't have the content without the other.

It has nothing to do with being new, it has to do with being an idiot. To suggest that people here jump on anyone just for being new is ridiculous.

dannimal
01-01-2007, 12:27 PM
Likewise, there's nothing wrong with being a sincere poster talking about what you like. It's when you start to get irrational about defending what you like that it gets hairy. If you can't handle people not sharing the things you like OR that they may point out flaws that aren't flaws to you (or that you can live with beacuse you enjoy the whole), the road will be bumpy.

We have a full-blown console war going on, so I think things are a bit hotter than normal. Beside, MrLipid, those sorts of idiotic comments tend to go away if you ignore them, which was one of the big problems with k0ny. He thrived on the attention and managed to encourage it more often than not.

Besides, Linoleum isn't always such a jerk!

A few facts for the new year:

QT3 is what it is. Can't stand the "heat" get out of the kitchen.

K0NY has earned every iota of scorn he's taken on these boards. IMO he's actually still in deficit.

Worm, why you're working so hard to screw up your rep on this board I don't understand, but good luck with that.

In general, if you don't pay attention to the community, but stomp around with an attitude you're going to end up getting treated like the whiny child you are.

If you're new around here, and you can't at least pay attention to anything but yourself, then yeah, don't bother posting.

RepoMan
01-01-2007, 04:17 PM
Yeah, I definitely have some whiny child aspects that I'm compelled to inflict here sometimes, but I'm trying to stick big fat disclaimers around them and localize any flamewars. K0NY seemed to get aggro in about 50,000 different threads.

If you find yourself in a meta-level argument about whether you are (or, especially, whether everyone else is!) being a jerk or not, you're already on thin Qt3 ice. Take the hint, and let it drop. Community perception = social reality, like it or not.

And to that piont, we've all gotten crazy on this board at some point or other... myself included. There's boatloads of forgiveness around here if you give yourself a chance to cool down and enjoy the community for what it is.

Linoleum

Exactly. I was getting awfully tired of the feeling that he was singlehandedly dragging down the quality of Games discussion to such a degree and he was either oblivious, indifferent, or enjoying egging on the drama. And then things reach a critical mass when it sinks in that he isn't going to tone it down and people start actively wishing he'd just go away. He was the first case where I was actively tempted to figure out how to configure to ignore his posts, and I've never had a desire to do that even with folks I may vehemently disagree with in P&R. :)

I'm kind of surprised the kiosks don't hard reset the machines every X minutes, that's been pretty traditional with a lot of kiosks in the past. At any rate, demo machines having reliability issues is nothing new, less than optimal thermal environments and drive usage cycles well outside of spec.

Every single PS3 demo machine I've seen has been:

1) off
2) frozen

I have yet to see a functional PS3. Also, are the Wii demos supposed to be playable? Because they just have the console there and a video playing. WTF is that? How about some uber-wii-straps so people can whirl them around their head and take out all bystanders? That'd be some good PR.

Saw a huge stack of 60GB PS3s in the Best Buy today. Blue-shirts muttering "shit, now we got em, no one wants them, they just want the Wii...."

I did see 2 people pick up PS3s when I was there though, but there was more activity in the XBox 360 aisle.

Anecdotal evidence FTW! Wii > 360 > PS3

It's almost as amusing as all the people who think this "article" didn't start as a joke post on some message board on the other side of the planet, only to get picked up by "news" sites looking for any bad Sony rumors they can find to drive traffic.
