Stumbled across an article about the 50 Greatest Cartoon Shorts Ever (http://cityrag.blogs.com/main/2006/12/the_50_greatest.html), and was really blown away by #44, The Man Who Planted Trees. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5718335807564310432&q=The+Man+Who+Planted+Trees) Really wonderfully made, with narration by Christopher Plummer and a genuinely touching finish. Take 30 minutes and check it out if you've never seen it.
It's no Beeroshima, but hey, it's Christmas.

I saw it over 20 years ago on PBS, so I'm fuzzy on the details, but I remember it being amazing. I'm not surprised it would be in the top 50.

Does anyone know, off the top of their head, the name of an animated short about a sand-man making art in the sand, building a house out of sand, and so on. It was some kind of stop-motion dealie. Can't find it now. I was convinced it was called "the sandman," but that doesn't seem to turn up anything.
My recollection is that is was one of those odd silent flicks, with maybe a few weird sound effects mixed in with licks of hippy music. Maybe.
