View Full Version : Looking for a Guild Wars... Guild

After trying out the Nightfall free trial I decided I enjoyed the gameplay that Guild Wars has to offer so I went out and bought a copy of Prophecies, since I figured it would be best to learn the game from the beginning. While I'm really enjoying trying to solo stuff with my Warrior/Ranger and have had a good time with what PUG's I've put together, I must say questing with henchmen, while effective, is a bit dry.
So now I'm in search of a good guild to join. I don't know anybody in game yet, so I figured this was as good a place as any to post in the hopes of finding a nice group to join up with.

I could also use a decent guild. I haven't been playing recently, but that's mainly due to a lack of people to play the game with. If qt3'rs decide on a guild, I'll come back to nightfall.

There's still about 5 people active in the QT3 guild, although I've never been online when anyone else in the guild has. I've been playing Nightfall myself. Just picked up my 3rd hero :)

I only have Prophecies right now. If I can find Nightfall at a superbargain type price anytime soon I may pick it up as I'm already missing having heroes around... and I really liked my Dervish I got to level 10 before my 10 hour free Nightfall trial was up.
My character names are:
Johnny Indigo ---> Mesmer/Elementalist... with a decent party, he just tears through mobs
Moshe Masada ---> Warrior/Ranger... can solo 2-3 same-level mobs thanks to his pet cat with the oh-so-clever name of Zealot.

I'm in a small but growing guild; if anyone would like an invitation please feel free to reply or PM me with your character name.
Quick dumb question. I'm going to buy nightfall (on sale at eb for 34) tomorrow. I don't have the original one installed on my computer but I do have an account with several characters on it. If I just install nightfall would I be able to play everything from the original guild wars, or would I need to install that as well?

I'm in a medium sized guild that in turn is in a much larger alliance. The guild itself has a core of regulars showing up, and the alliance is ridiculously active (they still have some people playing Prophecies). Send a tell to Hiro the Sage ingame or just pm me here if you want to know more.
I'm technically the leader of the QtoT (no numbers in guild names) guild. We have about 60 members, but as somebody said, only a couple of people play regularly. There has been some noise on here about a lot of people picking up Nightfall, so maybe there will be a 2-3 week resurgence.
I bought Nightfall myself a couple of days ago, so I am playing again. Whenever SuperHiro and I are on at the same time, I plan to enter us in his Alliance (assuming that offer is still on the table). That should allow the people that want more activity the opportunity to actually play with people. I never even finished Prophecies, so I have a few characters that are spread through it. A monk in Droknar's, a Necro/Mesmer in Riverside, and a Ranger who is back in the Shiverpeaks.
In game name is The Raber.

I've got the original and Nightfall, with various levels of non-progress in each :P
I've also only been online when noone else has, sometimes missing people by
minutes. I'm on XFire if some of you want to play a bit of either game in the weekend.

As far as I'm concerned it is. Things have changed in that I'm no longer guild leader and we're no longer the head guild in the alliance. But I'm sure they'll take you guys if I ask nicely.

And if any of you guys ever want to pvp, toss a PM to Embryo Pvpstyle in-game.
For that matter, if you guys want a Guild that does PvP, though I'm afraid mostly Euro-hour, toss me a PM and I'll toss you an invite.

I belong to a small-medium guild.
Quick outline, We:
1) Run our own VoIP Server (There are other games and gamers too like WoW, BF2, etc.)
2) Are an international guild so there's usually someone on to play with
3) Play all three of the campaigns and help each other out with them
4) Play both PvE & PvP. They both are fun with the right people
5) Share builds, information, items, etc. No one is allowed to profit off another guild member. If you pay X for an item, you sell it for X not Y to your Guildie. If you got it free, you give it away to a guildie. That being said, anyone else you want to sell it to, knock yourself out.
All in all we have a pretty fun group of players of all different ranges so if you want an invite send me a PM. I'm one of the three founders of the guild so I don't need "Approval" to invite you in.

You might need to "install", if it wasnt downloaded by the updater already.
If you don't have the cd's but your account already has Prophecies, just use the -image switch, start the game and it will download EVERYTHING avaiable to your account. (remove the -image switch from the icon target after this is done :) )
Well just picked it up, if the game still lets you track people across multiple characters then you can find me with my mesmer/necro guy Grant Miller.
So when is everyone usually on, I was on earlier from 6 to 8 trying out a dervish character and no one was on. So far I think I like the start of the original guild wars better, also once you have the key on your account ,you don't need to install the original guild wars it does download everything .

So, did everyone decide to join a particular guild?
Also, I'm really liking Nightfall. Anyone else doing newer characters with it? I think I really like the Paragon, but I went Elementalist with the Paragon and wasn't real impressed with that.
I really like the Ranger (still), especially with my default Hero being a melee type. We do mad damage. I haven't really settled on a good second class for the Ranger yet.
I can't decide whether I'm going to stick with the Ranger or Paragon class either. I think I MIGHT like the Paragon more (because of adaptability), but maybe with a better second class.
Any suggestions? I'm wanting to stay out of melee combat (that's what my hero guy is for)...
Oh, and for the Ranger starting in the new Nightfall lands...are there any animals to tame there? And if I tame an animal, do they stay with me between city visits and quitting and playing again later?
Thanks again to everyone you convinced me to try Nightfall. Heroes make the game.
Edit: I usually play at 9pm+ EST.

The Dervish is awesomely powerful. Even the starter skills made me widen my eyes a bit; it's a great solo primary. Going Dervish/Elem is a really powerful combo, altho I think a Dervish/Warrior would be great also.
Is anyone else having as much fun as I am with the special Wintersday stuff going on right now? I love the special items, especially the ones that reduce your death penalty. Do these items persist after the 1st, or is it only during the event?

You keep the Candy Canes to use whenever you want. Or you can sell them to the PVPers, i guess.

I collected some candy canes, but I didn't look into it further than that. I can do something with those? :)
MatthewF
12-28-2006, 09:00 AM
You can exchange candy cane shards for candy cane weapons from certain vendors in the cities. Just hold down the Alt key (I believe) to find them. There are also other vendors that will exchange regular collector items for special Wintersday ones, although most of them are useless with the exception of the items that remove a percentage of your death penalty.
Make sure you show up on the 1st too, because you get a free festival hat which you can then duplicate at the hat vendor.

Just do Ranger/Paragon. Expertise works really well with Paragon skills (it reduces the cost of non-spell skills, I think). Plus the Paragon armors are ASS. Like, really bad. Unless you like nipply, midriff-baring armor on your MALE characters. Ranger on the other hand, have good lookin' armors.

I actually switched my Dervish Secondary to Warrior. I can't stand the clipping on my scythe, so I'm doing to use sword/shield. The Dervish fighting animations with it is pretty cool.

You need to get past a certain point though. IIRC, in Nightfall it's in the Sunspear Command Post, just find the "Profession Changer". It'll cost you 500 gold each time you want to change, but you can jump between what you've bought all you want. So I switched from Ele secondary to a Mesmer SEcondary, to a Warrior secondary. I paid 500 gold to swtich to Mesmer, and another 500 to switch to Warrior. But I can jump back to Mesmer to Elementalist to Warrior for free.

That's why after i made my male warrior & male necromancer, all my other toons were females. Female armor for almost every class looks great, Male armor usually sucks ... alot!

Just clarifying a bit what Hiro said, he means that it will cost 500 gold the FIRST time you "buy" a new secondary class for a toon. After that you can change without having to pay.

I swear I had to pay 500 when I had jumped to Mesmer and another 500 when I jumper to Warrior. I think they changed it in NIghtfall.

That's good to know... who do I see about doing this? I've got a level 9 Paragon I wouldn't mind switching to something interesting.
Also, I like the Paragon armor just fine since I can only play girls in GW. Much like CoH, the girls are all pretty and the guys are all dopey looking.
Edit: saw my answer after I saw there was another page. :)

Sorry for the engrish. What i meant was, in your case, if you want to switch your secondary back to Mesmer, you wont have to pay the 500 gold again.
This used to cause some confusion in Factions/Prophecies among new players, mainly because there was only one place in each chapter where you could change your secondary. Now in Nightfall there is the much needed combo box with the avaiable secondary classes for each toon in the attribute panel.

Heh, why not? I know everyone has there way and their reasons with sort of thing, I'm just curious as to why.
The only disadvantage in CoH was that I got hit on a lot. In other MMORPGs I was given things by random people.
Just to clarify, if you're playing Prophecies (aren't you the guy I played Frost Gate with last night?), then you can't switch your secondary class. Not until a long way into the game, anyway.

Yeah, if you only have Prophecies, it's only when you get to the Desert that you will be able to change your secondary profession. Well, at least it's for free.
I'm really enjoying the dervish class, for someone who likes to solo or run with limited henchmen, what would be a good secondary? I'm thinking Ranger. Also the wintersday event is pretty fun, I'm trying to get thru the solo mission right now. One question , are heroes available to be used in the other campaigns or only in nightfall?

Well I'm enjoying the heck out of Prophecies but don't think I'll hold out log on picking up Nightfall.. those heroes are *really* cool. John and I used a 17 and 15 level character with his Nightfall heroes to run through a mission full of 20+ level mobs.

Yes, after you "collect" them(HAY, it's just like Pokemon!) on the Nightfall campaign, you can take them to the rest of the world and do missions with them. Don't forget that there 2 extras heroes to collect in the other campaigns, one in Lion's Arch(Male Necro) & one in Kaineng(Female Assassin).

Nightfall. It makes the game MUCH easier. You can have up to three buddies/heroes each that you level up and control (for the most part) that are always with you.

Agreed, Nightfall is the version to buy for anyone just coming into Guild Wars or who had the original and wants to add an expansion.
Prophecies (the original) has a good campaign that scales in difficulty fairly well, but suffers from some slow xp grind spots and poor henchmen AI.
Factions is a great way to level a character fast, as xp is everywhere, but the 2 new classes introduced are lackluster and the quasi-Asian theme gets old fairly quickly.
Nightfall is the best balanced of the 3, and the addition of customizable heroes adds a new dimension to the game that was much needed. The setting (a sort of North African theme) is very unique, and the campaign is fluid and well designed.
I'm usually on as Raveneye Darkstar, Warrior/Necromancer, in either Tyria (trying to nab the last couple of bonuses and elites I missed) or Elonia forging through the new campaign. I have a small group of friends I play with regularly who have just moved from the Tyria campaign to the Elonia one with our 20th level Prophecies characters. I have many alts of various classes and levels as well, so if I'm on, send me a tell if you need assistance with anything.

Definately Nightfall. It's imo the best of the three in so many ways.

I'm glad I got Prophecy first. I played the free 10 hour Nightfall trial and really enjoyed it but it doesn't really hold your hand at all if you're new to the game. Playing Prophecy has really given me a better understanding of the game mechanics, and I'm really enjoying the storyling.. which is a first for any MMO as far as I'm concerned.
Nightfall is on its way from Amazon now though, as I just have to have those Heroes.
I agree with Ryan. As someone who played about 60 hours of Guild Wars prior to its release and about 300 post-release hours of Prophecies, I think that it does a good job of slowly introducing elements and explaining them to you. I have now run several characters through the beginnings of Factions and Nightfall, and though all the information is there, it is WAY less accessible and introduced too quickly to be fully grasped.
I think the right thing to do is what Ryan said -- play a couple of Prophecies characters up to Riverside or so, then get Nightfall.
I agree, the tutorial/ starting area of prophecies was very well designed. I still never got around to exploring the entire crypt area. Also I just took my lvl 20 guy to the nightfall area, the mission was pretty hard with the stupid henchmen. At least now I got heroes accessed for him so maybe I can finsh up all the loose ends I have in the prophecy campaign.
Do you guys think that factions is worth it to own for the campaign or should I stick with nightfall for awhile?
If nothing else, there are heroes available in the Factions campaign too, once you have Nightfall installed.
I'm only at the very beginning of Factions (like, the VERY beginning), but I like the art style, and I got it for $35 at EB/Gamestop a couple of days ago. If nothing else, you get the extra skills for your classes of choice. Factions has 20 or so new skills for each of the original classes.
SuperHiro
12-29-2006, 05:01 PM
Factions is alright, but most of the real meaty stuff in it are for PvPers. I personally really like the Assassin and the Ritualist. The PvE stuff is OKAY, but the plot sorta... well, a certain part of it SUCKS.
Has ArenaNet added in any elite missions or new missions for the prophecy campaign? I'll be willing to do any of them with my mes/nec if anyone wants to. Or if anyone wants to go for the mission title for the campaign (complete all missions along with bonus).
SuperHiro
12-29-2006, 07:55 PM
Anet added some new stuff last year, before the release of Factions and Nightfall, but AFAIK nothing since.
Does anyone know if Arena Net moved the vendor's for the elite armor? I went back to the snow area in the prophecy campaign and didn't see the guy there. I know that my mesmer isn't wearing it because I remember that it was a different type.

Hrm? Warrior secondaries are great. They have really aggressively priced stuff like Wild Blow for 5 energy and Watch Yourself.
What Profession are you, and what skills are you using? For that matter, where in the game are you? It sounds like you may be using something sub-optimal.
