And 93 of them are sports sequels.

How many of you that have a next gen console (and paid money for it sorry Tom you can't respond), think it was worth the money and wait outside Target, if you went that route anyway.

Well worth it and I didn't camp out for any of them (unless you count the 1.5hrs for the gamestop wii preorder). I probably had some of the best gaming experiences in a long time this past year and most of them were on x360.

I just wish next gen was a little less buggy.

I'd have picked "worth it" if my 360 was working. I'm sure once I get it fixed I'll be back on the bandwagon.

Meanwhile, the Wii is a good time by itself.

I haven't played my 360 a whole lot, and if they don't get the Gears of War patch out this year I will kick someone's face, but I sure have had fun with Dead Rising and Lumines Live and what little Gears I *have* played. And if I had more time (and there were less great PC games out), I'd be having a lot more fun with it, so I can't blame the 360 for my own lack of gaming time.

And dwarfing all of that is the massive use it's gotten as a CD and DVD player that upscales flawlessly on both our LCD monitor and LCD projector (both of which are in our living room -- we have no TV set, we turned off our cable). Means that now I can play PC games *OR* 360 games, on either monitor *OR* projector while still allowing my wife to watch a movie on whichever one I'm not using. (Or vice versa. 2x2 VGA switcher for the win!) Plus my wife loves being able to control her movie-watching with the wireless 360 controller. And, our baby daughter is tripped out by the 360's music visualizer when streaming children's tunes from the PC :-D

I'm very psyched for 2007, too: Crackdown, Mass Effect, Lost Planet, (hopefully) Too Human... hells yeah!

I bought my 360 in October, and since grabbing it, haven't played a single PS2 game. Although, all I've really missed is Bully.

We bought a 360 last month and are loving it!

The game that sold us on the machine isn't even out yet (Assassin's Creed, which sits smack dab in the middle of my gaming obsessions: stealth, assassination, climbing the environment, free-form navigation of play spaces, 12th century Jerusalem) but my bride and I are having a blast with Gears of War, Dead Rising, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Tomb Raider: Legend, GRAW, Enchanted Arms, and a bunch of other stuff.

We're very happy with the purchase and can't wait for stuff in the pipeline like Mass Effect and Bioshock.

Between Gears and the XBox Live Arcade stuff, it's totally been worth it for me. I've already had more fun than I did on my old XBox in total.

I've never understood the wait-outside-Target demographic, even if I'm friends with some of them. My trouble in getting a 360 consisted of going to my local Micro Center a few weeks back, walking in, and saying "Hey, I'd like a 360, please," when a salesman materialized.

So far it's been totally worth it.

Same here and I've been buying consoles since the early 80s. The 360 made my year.

I've been happy with mine. I'm not much of a fan of sports games and I usually prefer to play shooters on the PC, but my PC's old enough now that I'm more willing to give them a chance on the 360, and I'm finding them not to be so bad after all.

I'd like to see more RPGs and platformers on it, but for now I've still got plenty of them on other systems to work through.

The 360's been a great purchase thus-far. I spent maybe six months playing virtually nothing but FN Round 3, Hitman:BM, Oblivion and Dead Rising. Not to mention the really good games like Kameo and Saints Row, and I have yet to play what looks like great games in Rainbow 6:Las Vegas and Gears Of War, then there's upcoming stuff like Forza 2, Mass Effect, Bioshock (I doubt I'll have acquired a great PC by the time it comes out)...

I mean geeez.

The PS2's still going strong thanks to the likes of Okami, but it's getting harder to keep paying attention. And once I get a good gaming PC and (maybe) a PS3, I have a feeling it'll get the buried-in-the-closet treatment.

I picked "gyp" because I've barely played the 360 since I bought it. It's not really a gyp, I'm just not a big fan of the Microsoft lineup, which seems to be aimed at 20-year-olds.

Eventually the market will probably catch up. But, given that I'm still mostly playing PS2 games, I should have waited.

Bought it at launch and I had a bit of buyer's remorse for over half a year with the notable exception of Oblivion. But the constant stream of quality releases over the past several months (even if Gears was the one that I loved) has made me happy to have it and 2007 looks to be much stronger.

I picked "gyp"...

Oh, that reminds me. I do hate getting all politically correct and all, but the term "gyp", derived from the root "gypsied" is quite offensive to the Roma. I used to not realize this, and then one day I heard the term "jewed" used in its stead and I was mightily offended, and I've never said it again. So, hey, let's put the casual racism behind us and try to use the more accurate "ripped off" or "reamed in the ass" in the future.

I do realize it's yurislave who made the poll, Qenan, so you're not a racist. Really, you're not!

For some reason the word bride made me picture your wife sitting on the couch playing games in her wedding dress. I'm mental though.

My 360 has definitely been worth it. I might not have needed to buy it when I did at the beginning of the summer, but I'm glad I have one now.

Admittedly, if I had wanted to play any "next-gen" games at all, I'd have had to shell out some cash because my PC wasn't up to it, but I'm pleased that I chose a console over an upgrade. For one thing, it was cheaper. It was also less of a pain to set up. I can be assured of reasonable stability and that I will be able to play games for several years to come - unlike my last upgrade, which extended my PC's gaming life span by a pitiful eight months.

But, taking the console on its own merits, rather than just as a necessary step to facillitate next-gen gaming, it's still been a very positive experience. With its integrated friends features etc., the dashboard is a great community tool that has really boosted my enjoyment of online gaming. Voice communication is in-built. Most games have a decent match-making interface. No fucking around with third party apps like Xfire and Teamspeak.

And the games... There's some great stuff, and I'm sure the best is yet to come as the console matures.

From what I can tell (http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/8/messages/634.html), it is far from established that "gyp" stems from "Gypsy" -- it's plausible, but not really proven.

Do you get offended at phrases like "to welsh on" or "get your Irish up"? I agree that it is rude to intentionally malign a group, but I'm don't think worrying about the etymology of words from 100+ years ago necessarily makes sense.

We're venturing off topic, but I can't say that I've ever heard either of those two phrases before. Ever. So I guess you were exposed to more racist language growing up than I ever was. And yeah, I guess I do find them offensive. I don't even know the meaning of the first, and I always heard the second as "get your dander up".

I would have been offended had the word "jewed" been used as a similarly racist alternative to "gypped", and that's been around 100+ years as well, so I guess there's no statute of limitations on having offensively racist etymological origins.

I have been very happy with the purchase of my 360 this Spring. Granted, it is the first console I have had since our old Atari 5200 growing up, so I had more than a few older Xbox games to catch up on and enjoy as well. However, in the last few months, there have been enough really great titles that have come out that I have given up on BC Xbox games and am now just enjoying current ones.

I think it is really Live that has made it most worth it for me. Being able to jump online with friends and play for a few hours here and there is really what I have enjoyed the most.

Is that like someone Cleveland Steamering you? Perhaps if we stop using "gypped" the Gypsies' reputation would improve, hmm? Or don't you think that subconciously the lesson isn't being absorbed the thousands of times that this term is heard during a person's lifetime? That Gypsies are dishonest? We have to start somewhere. If even one less person uses "gypped" after my interruption of this thread, for which I apologize, then I'll be happy.

Oh, and thanks to your quote I saw that I had a typo in "statute of limitations". I fixed it, thanks!

They don't want to do this because it would split their base if they allowed games on HD-DVD. I am not sure about the technical feasibility of playing DVD based games from that drive but I am pretty sure they don't want to allow that either just so people don't get confused about needing the HD-DVD addon for games.

Well, I should clarify -- I don't mean HD-DVD games. I meant just using the apparently much quieter add-on as the primary. I think they'll move to multiple DVD9 discs before they take the plunge on HD-DVD games. And if and when they do that, it will probably be a premium version, with a DVD9 version still available.

Even that might not be a good idea, I don't know what the transfer rate of the hd dvd drive is.

I tend to agree. It would create confusion and that is never a good thing. What I wouldn't mind seeing is a 2nd rev box with an HDMI port and that 65nm process for the CPUs. I think they will keep the HD-DVD as an addon and for movies only.

Voted worth it. My 360 plus 1024x768 native projector has made Gears of War, and many others, look freaking awesome. XBLA and the new movie/T.V. rental service is also great, and DVD playback is awesome too.

As much as people malign Microsoft nowadays - and I'm sometimes among them - they really have hit the ball out of the park with the 360. Good game lineup, although somewhat lacking in areas (RPGs and fighters only have 1 or 2 good games, but there's like 10 good shooters), but the console as a whole is fantastic.

Damien Neil

I just checked Gamespot's list of 360 games. Removing XBLA titles, I get about 91 games. Of those, about 33 are sports games. I counted licensed games like MotoGP 06 as sports, but not generic racing games like Ridge Racer.

There are way more than 17 non-sports games out there for the 360.

I don't care much about whether or not motorsports are sports, but I think that it's reasonable to say that a racing game like MotoGP is in the same category as Madden.

Burnout, I'm not so sure about.

Anyway, there are only ~7 racing games in the 58 non-sports games that I counted, including things like Full Auto that don't have much of anything to do with any real-world sport.

I picked up all 3 of the "next gen" consoles last month. The Wii has been worth every penny. The PS3 has been....underwhelming. But, I think I am a bit biased. Both the Wii and PS3 had only 1 game that I wanted a launch (Zelda and Resistance) and there is just no comparison there for a nintendo fan.

The 360 however, I wonder where I have been without this thing, granted it helps when a console has been out for a year and has 37 games rated 80% or higher (http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/simpleratings.asp). I've given up my PC as a gaming platform almost entirely, and now I don't want to go back. I just wish they had more RTS games.

I can't wait for a Wii RTS. In my non-Wii owning head, the Wiimote is the perfect replacement controller for the mouse in those games. You can easily gesture to select units, band box them, and scroll around the map. The main problem will be with the low resolution of the screen.

I haven't tried Battle for Middle Earth II, and I understand they really did come up with great new ways to control an RTS using an X360 controller, but I'd still prefer not having to learn anything all that new. If only the X360 had a Wiimote...

I have heard of halo wars, but C&C3? I think I might shed a tear.

And yeah, a Wiimote would be awsome for the 360, but I wouldn't mind if it supported a usb mouse/keyboard combo as an option.
