Ha ha, made you look!

Seriously, though, that was the title of a press release Capcom sent out with a link to this survey (http://www.capcom.com/monster/survey/). I'm not sure what good it will do. In fact, I strongly suspect they just put it there so Monster Hunter fans can click on something while they're, I dunno, turning their meat. It probably doesn't even connect to any sort of tally or counter. But it's worth a try.

Oh, and while you're there, give them a great big 'Screw you!' from me for that Steel Battalion controller in my closet. And then give them a big 'Way to go!' for Dead Rising, Okami, and God Hand. If you just want to be economical about, the 'Screw you!' can just cancel out one of the 'Way to gos!', so you can just give them two 'Way to gos!' from me.

Can you put together a chart or spreadsheet or something? I hate this new math.

I still don't understand how anyone fell for that one.

Well, it was a pretty clever scam. Persistant world with RPG elements combined with the coolest controller ever made. I mean, I had the box in my hands with the features described on the back. When I opened it, there was a disc inside.

So is the game any good? Is Valkyrie better?

To be precise, it was Steel Battalions Line of Contact that elicits the Screw You!

"Do you own, or have you played Monster Hunter Freedom?"

"No."

"Thanks for taking the Monster Hunter Freedom Survey!"

That's a pity. I really wanted an opportunity to explain to them that Monster Hunter Freedom sounds really good, but that there's no way I'm blowing $40 on a portable, multiplayer game with no infrastructure play.

It was also, you know - the single greatest mech simulator ever designed. It was better than the Mech Pods at the Virtual Geographic Society, and those only ever appeared in a scant few cities, like Chicago. I've never playe anything, before or since, that comes even close to being as good as Steel Battalion. I'd be genuinely surprised if I ever do. And I don't regret for one second all of you that I roped into playing line of contact. :P I still can't believe CAPCOM dropped the ball so hideously on supporting or maintaining it. I expect to always hold a grudge over that.

The replay feature after a match was outstanding -- they really were just a whisker away from the best game ever, if only it had actually, y'know, worked in North America.

It's actually fine as a single-player game. Quat's right about how it was unlike any other mech game. I don't regret the money I spent on it. I'm tempted to dust the controller off and replay some of those missions. But then I'd have to set up my little Steel Battalion table, and that would just mean less room for jumping around while playing Guitar Hero II.

But there was so much lost potential for those of us who never got multiplayer working! I hate you, Capcom. I hate you. You're not my real dad!

I never had a proper setup for playing SB. I only ever did 3 or 4 missions cause I didn't have a proper height chair and table for the controller. Sigh.
