I refuse to even dignify this Monday's comic with a link.

Lo how the mighty have fallen! From the heights of fish/female hybrid concupiscence to the depths of maxillofacial assault in just one week.

Somehow, webcomic threads always turn out stupid and lame. Like this one.

Don't they have a forum for this?

I agree with Spoofy, that's a terrible comic. I'm pissed at him, though, because if he hadn't started this thread I wouldn't have seen it, and now I can't unsee it.

Better than the mermaid one. I chuckled.

I didn't laugh out loud, but for Penny Arcade it wasn't bad. Not really worthy of comment either way.

Wow, one of the least impressive PA's ever, and I'm usually a fan.

What are those two complaining about anyway? I can't imagine with PAX and all their industry connections they still have to pay full retail for their consoles and games anymore. "We're sad because we need to drop $1500 on consoles and games before New Year's and then sit around on our fat asses playing all that stuff for months on end while trying to find the will to crank out our web comic." Boo-fucking-hoo.

And, it's not like their games aren't a deductible business expense for them, either.

Hey, when is the Anti-Child's-Play campaign starting up this year? I want to make sure to have all my Spoofy-is-a-dingdong posts ready so I can just post them once and be done with it.

Yeah yeah, irony. Or Alanisrony, I forget which.

Does anyone know how much Tycho and Gabe pull in a month? I always figured they were rolling in money and $1500 wouldn't be a big deal.

Whenever I think of PA, this is exactly the sort of strip that comes to mind.

I guess it's what comes of having 13-year-old boys as your target demographic.

Whenever I opine about PA I always try to mimic their distinctive written style as it were.

No, they're just like you and me. They have the same monetary concerns we do. Like the rest of the game related industry, they do not profit off of generating game hype and coolness. Go buy more games; the ones you bought two weeks ago and haven't played yet aren't cool anymore.

I don't know about that... they do profit off their site, and PAX and their side projects. I'm not saying they have enough to retire, but I don't think 1.5k is hurting them.

You know it's an interesting question: How much do you have to make before dropping $1500 in a month on a game console and related paraphenalia is not a "big" purchase. In order to have an additional $1,500 of spending money per month you would probably have to make between $20,000-$25,000 more per year (depending on taxes).

At that point I think I could probably consider blowing a full month's extra spending money on a game system although I would still feel guilty about it.

Nobody is talking about spending $1,500 *per month*, just $1,500 in one month -- the big holiday buying month. There isn't 1,500 worth of shit worth buying, gaming-wise, on any other month of the year even if you had the money to blow.

Dude, if you ordered all that stuff on the same day, how much do would you need to make before dropping $1500 in a DAY is not a "big" purchase. Shit, you'd need to make an extra $800,000 to $900,000 a year (depending on taxes). Think on that for a while. Gaming is d0med if we all need to be millionaires just to eek by.

I shudder to imagine the per second implications when you actually click the "Checkout" button.

I was just being a bit of a prick (big surprise). I do take anything lightly when it regards cash, to the extent it is coming from someone inside the industry. Our motives do not align.

last I heard PA pulled in around 30k a month.

Is that net profit or...? and is that per person? are you counting all the outwhoring for manuals and whatnot that Gabe does?

If that is true though, they must be doing the backstroke in money-pools wearing money-hats.

If you'd seen their advertising rates, you'd know they were making a SHITLOAD. That site is a goldmine. Around $150k+ a month.

That's based on their $5 CPM and the 26 MILLION impressions they sell per month, out of their 36 million. That was a year ago, they've certainly grown.

Which is in part why they haven't been funny in years.
