A very depressing preview at that. Relevant points:

The biggest problem at this point, flat out, is that the game doesn't feel smooth enough for players to keep up with the onscreen enemies. It's difficult to turn around or make a quick turn to the left or right to get some shots off on someone before taking some slugs in the back. It seems to range from awkward to downright frustrating at times. That is, unlike, say, Metroid Prime 3, which enables quicker turning with some options adjustments, our Red Steel demo found us struggling to turn around after being shot, and finally, just plain dropping dead. We were told that a double whip of the Wii remote would steer us in the direction of fire, but it doesn't quite feel fast or intuitive enough at this point. We heard through the grapevine that the final product will have look sensitivity built in, and we certainly hope it's true.

As for everything else, it's not as clunky. The act of opening doors is a motion akin to turning a door knob. The Z button is used for crouching during firefights and will be invaluable in rooms full of faceless goons. Players will shoot using the B trigger. One of the coolest elements is the ability to slow down time with the A button, target gunmen, and take them out in a row, then decide whether to execute or disarm them. Also, players will be able to zoom in and fire with more accuracy on more targets. In sword fights, players will swing the remote to strike while rattling the Nunchuk to defend. It's fairly simple, but like a lot of the game, we'd like to see more of it in action than we've seen at this point.

A double-whip to turn? That's terrible. I can't believe they thought gamers would be into that. But it also makes me wonder, how sensitive is the nunchuk attachment? Could it somehow be used to turn the camera while the wiimote aims the cursor, perhaps by tilting? It sounds like it could be a little confusing to the brain at first, but then again, I never thought I could get used to WASD+mouse either.

Red Steel has looked pretty clunky from the get-go. The camera and player movement in that game ought to be out of the player's control, sort of like arcade light gun games like Time Crisis, et al. I bet it would have been a totally awesome game if Ubi realized that.

Stupid Ubi.

Yeah... I posted some Wii gameplay video links recently... and with the exception of this game, they all looked like fun and well suited for the Wii-mote.

Red Steel though... clearly seemed problematic.

Using the nunchuk for quick turns (in combination with a button press or something) is a great idea, and I can't believe I've never seen that suggested. Yeah, it's sensitive enough for that.
