Had a free pass that was expiring tonight, and I was stuck at a small theatre, so it was either Eight Legged Freaks or wait for an hour to see K-19 Widowmaker. I should have waited. I'd actually sort of hoped that Eight Legged Freaks would be a B-movie joke that didn't take itself at all seriously, but if there were any jokes in there, they were at the expense of the paying audience. What a dull, dreary piece of crap. Reminded me a lot of Mars Attacks!, which was also supposed to be a goofy take on a 1950s alien/monster/giant bugs from the desert flick, but was dull and pointless.

No payoff anywhere in this thing. Kari Wuhrer spent the entire second half of the film in a tight, low-cut t-shirt, yet never ditched the leather jacket that was mostly covering it up. Oh, the humanity. Well, at least I survived a movie featuring Kari Wuhrer, David Arquette, and the creepy looking guy who played the serial killer in Manhunter. Felt like I should have painted some kind of insignia on the side of my car before I drove home.

Are you kidding? Mars Attacks was brilliant!

Ugh! I'll side with Brett. Mars Attacks just wasn't for me. Utter tripe, in my opinion.

"Mars Attacks" is the all-time worst movie I have ever seen in my life -- yes, even worse than "Drop Dead Fred" or "Band of the Hand".

The image of the herd of cows on fire running down the street has really stuck with me, but otherwise I don't remember anything about Mars Attacks, which usually means I didn't like it. Still, one really striking image is more than I take away from lots and lots of movies.

Holy crap!
Somebody remembers "Drop Dead Fred"!?
Ric Mayhall and Phoebe Cates, it had so much going for it. (I'll side with the anti-Mars Attacks crowd, btw.)

Harrison's Russian accent seems abysmal from the clips. If anyone saw Dennis Hopper in "24", that was a miserable accent. I loved the show, but I told my wife,"If he says 'wodka' instead of vodka, we are shutting the TV off."

I was hoping the same for "Freaks". I thought David Arquette should have been perfect for a spoofy horror flick. Guess not.

And yes, Mars Attacks blew!!! What a dissapointment.

Unfortunately, I went to the movies that day with a dear friend...who thought this film was funny. I really, really, REALLY wanted to walk out of the theater (and I have never walked out of a movie), but I had to endure it for his sake. He *still* owes me those two hours.

So I'm the only one who liked Eight Legged Freaks? I mean, the cat in the drywall was worth admission alone...

I didn't like it either and only went because some friends of mine and I were a little too into "The Young Ones".

Still, always nice to catch a memory on a message board. Tell me Sparky, did you ever see "Nice Girls Don't Explode"?

You thought the cat in the drywall was funny? For the entire two minutes that it went on? Nice idea, but seeing one face-plant would've been enough. Seeing a dozen, accompanied by the howls of the dying cat, was a little much, and went into tasteless territory for me.

I convinced about 5 of my friends to go see the movie "Hardware" in much the same fashion you were convinced. I told them I had read somewhere it was the next "Terminator". It turns out, that quote was from Fangoria and the movie was dreadful.

One guy's wife wanted to leave and he said, "No, I spent my money and I am not leaving". They were a pretty conservative bunch and that movie was all kinds of ugly and offensive.

I do not think we attended a movie of my choosing for several years and to this day 10 or 15 years later they still bring it up.

Heh, that scene drove Jeffrey Wells to leave the theatre immediately: http://www.reel.com/reel.asp?node=movienews/confidential&pageid=21190

Thanks to everyone who saw this for saving me an hour and a half and $8.50. Your sacrifices are appreciated.

(...)going as over the top as they did is what made the scene for me.

Well, "going over the top" isn't necessarily a good thing. There's Monty Python over the top, where something's just REALLY exaggerated for effect (a good thing), then there's Latter-Day-SNL over the top, where the joke was funny the first 3 times, but they use it 20 in the same skit.

This sounds like the latter to me.

Hey, I enjoyed the movie, can't really talk me out of it at this point :)

Really? I find the opposite to be true -- lately, hurting/killing animals is a popular comedy gag. It's cheap and lazy, pandering to teenage boys (who spend a lot of money on movies), and another reason I don't really go to the movies any more.

You better not go see the Royal Tenenbaums then.
