The limit's 250 now? I guess there's no excuse for me not to be adding more people.
The limit on the leaderboard. Not the limit on your friends list. That is still 100. And it likely stay that way as long as people keep playing Halo 2 in such large numbers. Halo 2 won't be able to handle a change in the 100 friend list limit, so they've been waiting for it's popularity to die down, which hasn't happened, unfortunately. I don't know what's wrong with people. Halo 3 multiplayer is an improvement in every way you fools! Convince your parents to buy you a 360 already.

Yeah, I'd be interested in that too.

Oooooooooooooooooooh, okay. Still, 100 is better than I expected. I thought it was 8, or 16 or something.

ok, maybe I'll make a thread about it on Monday morning and see about getting it happening unless one of the "old school" QT3 guys would rather set it up.
Is there a better site to put this list on?

I just checked this thread and was hoping to join the leaderboard, but lo and behold, it looks like the 250 cap has been reached.
Is there a better site to put this list on?
Yes, TrueAchievements (http://www.trueachievements.com). They offer user leaderboards (http://www.trueachievements.com/userleaderboards.aspx) that aren't capped at all.
As an added bonus, the site has all sorts of great features.

Apparently it has to do with legacy support. Jason Cross asked MS about it a while back. The original Xbox is hard-coded and couldn't handle it if they upped the limit from 100.
I was about to say: who is still tied to the original Xbox? But then I had a look at the bottom of the Qt3 leaderboard, and apparently we have someone here in that list who has zero gamerscore and is still using XBox Live to get online using an original Xbox, so what do I know?
It's not hard-coded, it's a soft cap from the original Xbox days. Remember, that box launched without Xbox Live, and it was added later.
The deal is this: you had a system with 64MB of RAM (more than any other console of that generation!). Developers had to add Xbox Live features themselves...on the 360, most of the Live networking is handled by the system software, but devs on the original box could optionally support it and implemented some things on their own. So MS had to set a standard limit to the friends list length that everyone could live with.
100 seemed like a good limit. Devs said it was short enough not to impose a big memory penalty, but big enough that people wouldn't run out of friends too easily. More friends means more RAM used up just for messaging, presence, etc. MS had to impose a standard there, because if one game let you have 150 friends and the other one 80 friends...well what do you do with friends 81 and up in that second game?
You can all blame Halo 2 for MS not just pulling the plug on Xbox 1 support in Xbox Live and bumping up the limit. That's the one game that there are still enough people playing that they'd have a bunch of pissed off folks if they changed it.
If I was MS, I'd take everyone who has played Halo 2 in the last year (by gamertag) and send them a letter that says:
"Hey, we're really glad you love Halo 2. But it's the only original Xbox game holding us back from making important improvements to the Xbox 360. We're going to shut off the service in a few months on XX XX. Your Halo 2 game will still work offline, but you won't be able to play on Xbox Live. But hey, we want to make it up to you. If you click the following link, you can buy an Xbox 360 (with Halo 2 and Fable 2 bundled) for $100 off, and we'll even throw in a year of Xbox Live Gold membership (a $50 value!)."
That wouldn't be exactly cheap, but it wouldn't be crazy expensive when you consider that you'd turn hardcore Halo fans into Halo 3 fans who will buy DLC, the ODST game, and other Xbox 360 games and services.

That actually looks pretty good. I signed up and set up a QT3 leaderboard here (http://www.trueachievements.com/leaderboard.aspx?leaderboardid=936) if anyone is interested in trying it out. If it seems like it's going to work out I'll make a post about it in the morning.

Weird website, as I don't see a link to join the Qt3 leaderboard.

Look for a little icon like this http://www.trueachievements.com/images/icons/addleaderboard.png just under the description where it says "Access to this leaderboard is Public".
The nice thing about the other leaderboard is that accounts weren't required. I'll sign up for this one, but if I get spam, I'm forwarding it to you!

Ah. The site doesn't support Firefox, since the icon shows in IE.

What's the "TrueAchievement" score supposed to mean?
Royal Fool
08-16-2009, 06:50 PM
It's a recalculated score based on how many people have played any given game, designed to award you a higher score for rare achievements. So a game like the infamous Avatar: The Burning Earth (a favorite of gamerscore whores) will be worth 1,004 while Chromehounds has 5,117, mainly because it has a whole lot of incredibly difficult achievements. A score will never go below its default value, however.

To the creator of the document:
With the XBL and PSN friends lists limited to 100 friends, wouldn't the addition of a Time Zone column prove beneficial to those whose friends lists are already maxed?
