Lord. Everything about that looked awful.
It's like someome decided to remake "Man from Atlantis" and thought to themselves, "Hey, what this really needs is a good dose of 'Master Ninja' to bring it all together."

oh my...
Good thing it didn't get picked up, but you can watch it on iTunes, along with Babylon 5!

Not a movie, a television series called Mercy Reef (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0769325/).

That makes Smallville look like Batman Begins, or something. Give me Vincent Chase's Aquaman any day.

No, this is being promoted as Aquaman. It's actually being marketed on iTunes. They must have changed the title and gotten a DC license.
I don't know why everyone thinks Aquaman's so gay.

Selling failed pilots on iTunes is an interesting idea.

I'm not sure if it's a matter of him being "so" gay.
He's a very difficult character to work with because of his restrictions. The restrictions are much easier to deal with when he's in his own book because most of the time he's in the habitat where he's at his best.
However, Aquaman is a member of the JLA and that is where writers have problems with him. It doesn't help that he's the weakest member of the team by far. He's a fish out of water and scenarios have to be invented for him to be helpful. Oh look the villian is on an island, I guess we can expect to see Aquaman help out. And how does he help out? He summons a whale or a giant squid. Doesn't Aquaman win for most rebooted DC character?
His Marvel counterpart, the Sub-Mariner hasn't done too much better. I mean, he has to show up in Thunderbolts to get work. It helps that they've given him a decent power set and a memorable attitude/disposition.

The had the DC license all along, it was always about Aquaman, they may have simply changed the name.

If you look hard and long into the deep, something's going to start looking back.
Wasn't that Donald Rumsfeld?

Heh. No, it's a paraphrase of Nietzsche, actually. He used the word 'abyss' instead of 'deep.'

Because he was always a cheap no-personality ripoff of Marvel's Sub-Mariner.

They should go all Swamp Thing on Aquaman, bump him over to the Vertigo-verse, and make him the Water Elemental or something. Give him to Grant Morrison and say "Go for it." It's bound to be more interesting than 95% of the existing Aqua-lore.

I'll take "Minor superheroes from the Golden Age that nobody cares about" for $200, Alex.

Was it just me or did the guy look like Ben Affleck with bleached blonde hair? Some of the exact same annoying facial expressions too.

The Aquaman series in the 80's was actually pretty good. I picked up the whole run for like 30 bucks, and was surprised at how well done it was (peter david I think was the primary writer.)
All you would have to do to expand the character is expand his abilities, like they did with Iceman in Marvel world. Let Aquaman speak to land creatures too- maybe he isnt' thier 'king' but I'm sure his rep of being an eviromentalist would carry some weight with them. Also let him use cool Atlantis Tech-flying machines whatever, he has the ability of calling down a whole army on someone's head. Let him use his countries recources like Black Panther does- gathering intel exc.
Also in strength he is #4 on the JLA list , after Supes, W.Woman and Jonn J'onnzz (who is my son's favorite in the JLA which I think is pretty cool). But somehow he is always the one to get knocked out.
I think they made a big mistake making him the brooding grumpy bastard that his is now. If you read JLA Year One, that Aquaman was far more entertaining.

Maybe in the JLA, but he's still behind the Marvels and every Superman uber-villain. It's not a question of strength, it's a question of reach. They keep respeccing him to allow some form of action beyond swim/punch, like the hook-on-a-rope thing in JLU, but he just started out too specifically powered. I don't really see what the attraction with Aquaman is that causes the powers-that-be to try and make him a first-stringer. Why not let him just be the go-to guy when the oceans are involved? Martian Manhunter is massively more powerful, brooding, and has an interesting backstory.

When you talk about the JLA, you have to consider the fact that after Superman, Batman, the Flash, and Wonder Woman, you don't need the rest of them. It's a great team when there is a fantastically big enough challenge for them, but the rest are either fodder or overkill. Martian Manhunter is about as strong as Supes with a stupid weakness, Green Lantern is god in the hands of the right writer, and.... Aquaman? Fighting aliens in space? Starro wouldn't exist if not for the need give Aquaman an excuse to join the JLA.
As far as general "strength", Aquaman is dead last in every scenario unless the team is underwater.
That said, I like the moodier Aquaman, even if he's borrowing what Namor's had for decades. And right now his title is being written by Busiek, which is a fantastic excuse to take him up. I'm not sure if he'll even be in the new JLA ( hopefully not ).

When DC ripped off Namor, they gave the interesting antihero personality and the facial features to Black Adam and the rest (look, he lives underwater!) to Aquaman.
Truly sad.
