With EA's NFL Head Coach sucking so bad, I've finally given up on any Tiburon/EA products and am going to move to text-based football.

I briefly tried the original version of Front Office Football when it was first released many years ago, but was a little bored with it (and didn't like the interface), but I'm sure things have improved tremendously since then with all the other developer offerings.

So, what text-based football sim do you like best?

I played FOF quite and bit and found that to be the best one out there for pro football...but yes, the interface is a bit bland.

I did like their college game better though and might actually play it again now that football season is getting near.

Hmmm, has to be stuff much better than that out. They haven't had an update in years.

Front Office Football is still by far the best, and might be the best SMG period if you don't like soccer.

I haven't been able to play my copy in like a month due to the horrific eLicense copy protection system though. I've never really had a problem with the dreaded Starforce and the like, but eLicense has hosed me twice.

FoF isn't bad at all.

Glad to know I'm not the only person who was lit up by elicense.

FOF is still good, and pretty fun in multiplayer mode too. i think it's regressed since FOF2 though.

Nope, there is no better out there.

You'd think someone would fill the void in the last couple years, but every game that's tried has failed miserably.

Man, who knew that text could look so bad.

And it gets worse when he tries to do graphics. The guy writes a hell of a spreadsheet, but that's about it. I mean, I could probably learn to like it...if I had OCD.

A game like this has been one of my interminable side projects, a multiplayer text football sim that's playable over the Web. In fact, this is probably my second highest priority in theory, however I have had huge design issues, and I don't want to do something that's going to be as half-assed as everyting else I've seen. There's a lot of detail work that has to go into it, and a lot of just painful grunt work.

My goal was to have about 1000 serious players with something where you have leagues, etc. But I've been avoiding a play calling interface, instead doing a strictly team-building format.

Add me to the list. It took about a week to get the eLicense working the first time, and I just can't be bothered to go through that again.
