Almost everyone missed it. It wasn't exciting either.

The one notable thing was that he misspelled "Dungsroman," which I felt was also a bannable offense.

I caught it before I went to bed. I was not able to absorb it or discern meaning from it; it had something about Cleve, and the comparative quality of Cleve's and the poster's own specific strain of racism, but it didn't actually seem to say anything. In fact, it was very successful, in that the slow-burning banality of it made it quite impossible to reply to, as if it existed solely to make people want to go to sleep and dream not of a better world, but a more excellent one.

Remember HermyHermit? I apparently caught the post before Tom's Ban Hammer found it.

I sure do, and I'm not the slightest bit sad to see the banhammer hit 'em fast. Even though Tom gets grief sometimes for the bannings, he's done a fantastic job of pruning and shaping QT3, which is exactly what you have to do if you want to keep an internet forum vital and healthy. QT3 still has one of the best signal/noise ratios around, and banning people who've gotten out of hand and refused to back down is absolutely a part of that.

It was meandering, retarded bullshit. I think he was drunk, and not the funny ScurvyPig "Oh fire/My love for thee is a funeral pyre/ Burning like my vodka-soaked desire," more like the Mel Gibson unfunny racist drunk. Why the Hell he used his one last shot for a pro-Cleve shout-out only adds to the mystiq^H^H^H^Hdrunken idiocy.

Tranquility was talking about a borderline racist post immediately preceding his comment. It was made from a never-before used account that had been registered in 2005. The post, and the account, are gone now.

Not only was he banned.

It's like he never even existed.

It's gone now, sorry. He basically said that Cleve was a big phony because cleve was a racist without actually interacting with other, uh, races, while he was a true racist becuase he was a cop in the DC area, and had seen all kinds of things (which apparently made it okay to be a racist).

It depends on the person. Power changes some people. I had a guy I worked with in tech support that was decent enough until he became the lead tech. He was a right asshole after that.

Some people just can't handle the power of other people.

Its not neccesarily the power (though that does come into it) I think it has more to having to deal with the absolute dregs of society day in and day out. Probably not all that different from working in the movie business, i imagine.

What is the difference between gently touched and banned?

There isn't a difference, one is just a cute name for the other.

It dates back to some fun the QT3-admins had the first time there was a big fru-fru over a ban so somebody ran through the database of posts and searched/replaced the phrases "ban" or "banned" with "gently touched." Made a whole lot of posts pretty funny to read in ways the original authors had not intended :)

Jesus X Christ I hope you just missed the point of the conversation and are not actually implying that the entire population of DC are "the absolute dregs of society."

Otherwise this would be a very funny and Ironic statement.

So.... What's the story with Dante Rising + (X) then? We're still not sure why it happened (forum glitch?), but apparently a few months ago Dante Rising logged in and found himself on a new account and renamed as Dante Rising (X). According to the Member's List the old account still exists, but no new posts have been made from it since the creation of the "(X)" account.

Either that or some kind of identity theft has occurred. : )

That would be David Cross as Dr. Tobias Fünke from the great show Arrested Development. That's also where the line "Let's see some bananas and nuts" comes from.

Why Albert felt he needed to be the iconic image at the head of the banning registry, I have no idea.

I'm not sure I understand the hammers

Sigh.

Blue Hammer = ban-hammer = banned
Green Hammer = unbanning
Two-headed thingy = one person has more than one account
Arrow with eye = account was renamed by Tom at user's request

There's also a version number on the graphic now, I noticed. v25 is the latest.

I sympathize with anyone who finds navigating the chart daunting. Its puzzle-like nature, oblique layout, and lack of icon labels were quite deliberate as befitting what began as a forum in-joke. People found it useful though, so I kept updating and expanding upon it.

I'll also agree with those who find it too complicated, and although I enjoy the challenge of trying to cram all that info into the graphic in a visually interesting way, functionality will eventually need to trump form. As more and more entries are added, it'll soon be necessary to split the graphic into separate ones (with labelled icons!) for bannings, name changes and multiple accounts.

By the way, thanks to everyone who pointed out an alias or uncovered an alternate account, and also to all those who contributed suggestions and corrections. Thanks also to Squirrel Killer for his text-only version (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showpost.php?p=427173&postcount=31), which I've found useful for name changes/aliases.

Just a quick aside: no one gets banned for a single post, particularly if they've been around for a while. There is almost always a warning, and usually some sort of back-and-forth about this issue. If a problem persists, a person gets banned. Linking to a single post and saying 'So-and-so was banned for this' is rarely the whole picture.
