View Full Version : Civ 4 tomorrow night?

I finally got around to installing it on my new computer, and since no one is playing bfme2 or rol, I figure I might suggest a game. Problem is that I've never played a civ4 game (or civ3) online. Tomorrow night would be good for me, since I'll have time for a game.
Well I can never score higher than Dan Quayle on Noble difficulty so we're probably in the same boat. Maybe we can form a SH1T BON3RZ alliance or something.

I'd be up for this, though I've never played Civ4 under Pitboss or whatever we'll be using (assuming it's not PBEM).

I don't think I'm going to do pbem, never had good luck with them in other games. So far my civ4 skill is beating the computer on the level below warlord . I'm going to try now and see if I can figure out how to set up civ 4 multi.

I got my account setup and it should work, I don't know how much of a challenge I will be.

I'm going to head on now and create a game,
game name qt3
password koontz
if no one shows up I'll head on to Rol and see if anyone is there.

It's around 9:11 p.m. and I guess I missed you, mate. Maybe another time.

Hmm, my chat isn't working, either in the main area or the staging for the game you created. The enter key won't send my message. Are you on Xfire, Mr. Freak?

Did you try clicking on the text box, or maybe restarting?

Yeah, both. I type out my message but the enter key doesn't send it, and there's no send button to click. Bleh.

enter key should work, unless you want to just start and we'll see if text works in game

Okay, we can give it a shot. If I don't talk to you it's not because I think you're smelly :p

Ok it's offical, I'm horrible at Civ4. Metta didn't kill me, nor did the ai, but the barbarian horde did. I don't think I'm cut out for multiplayer TBs games.

That was fun while it lasted. Do you think we can finish a game in one sitting? It might be fun if we can find 4-5 folks to gather for a few hours.

I don't think we can, playing a tbs is alot slower then I'm used to online :)
Maybe next time we should get more people and I'll set the game speed to fast turns, that way everything gets built faster
and with that I'm now free for some Rol, that way I get my ass kicked in real time.

I've got an email game going that began the week the game came out and we're still only about 40 turns in. I liked being able to cycle turns quickly like that online game, but playing with folks I don't know gives me a case of the screaming heebie-jeebies.

In case you guys didn't know, there are very definite ways to set up a Civ4 game for maximum multiplayer enjoyment. Fast turns is just the first step.
I'd suggest a smaller map, a limited number of turns, a clear-cut victory objective, and an advanced starting age. A few computer opponents/teammates might also help. No one wants to play a MP game where the first hour consists of everyone waiting for grainaries to finish being built. :)

Proof that Civ4 has online multiplayer (besides pbems, of course)! I'm impressed guys, thanks for going where no man has gone before.
... I'm actually curious enough to want to try it now.
They've had online multiplayer since day 1. I played several games with my brother-in-law the week it came out.
I've had the game uninstalled since before Pitboss launched, but my understanding was that the functionality it added was allowing you to temporarily replace a human player with a CPU and change the multiplayer game type on the fly -- like, you're playing online, then switch to PBEM until you can meet up again, then switch back.
If all you wanted to do was sit-down to an online multiplayer game, you could do that months ago (though the browser used to be borderline nonfunctional; I understand they've improved that now).

I think that for a game like Civ, with my schedule I could probably do saturday night again.

Woah BillD better look out there's a new kid on the block.

I've played against the ai before, but my game with metta was the first time I played multiplayer. I was able to beat the ai at warlord level.

I'd be in for an MP game of civ. I normally play on Prince/Noble for SP, but I've done surprisingly well on the multigames, even against the =LEET CLANNERS=.
Sat night is good for me. AOL im: realtoun
I'll get in if we're doing online multiplayer. PBEM multiplayer is, uh, too slow.

You don't have to worry about that Lum, I can't take pbem either. Still chances are if I leave barbarians on again I'll probably be knocked out by turn 20.
