I think so. There's no reason you couldn't have. The aiming independant of the movement is nothing that couldn't be done with a regular controller either way.
I'm sorry; I was going off the Goldeneye example. In the default scheme, you had to hold down the R trigger to aim, at which point you couldn't really move.
The whole thing is a really minor point, though. It's not really an important point, I just like seeing something other than the center of the screen being where the bullets land.

I think they are debating the price anew with the Sony super expensive announcement.
That might be true. I can't believe they left the price off. It felt like one thing was missing and that was it. I think they lost a great opportunity to lay one hell of a blow to the Sony empire.

The way I am seeing it, the conference was powerful enough as it was to get plenty of good press. More when people get their hands on it in the Nintendo area. The price? That can be used for big press later on, if anything is threatening to push the Wii out of the forefront.

It's possible, though they did announce previously that it would be "under $200," didn't they? Given Sony's price bombshell and Nintendo's whole "it's for everyone" tack, they might be giving some serious thought to upping the price and including multiple controllers in the box. But who knows?

Oh, and BTW--they sold me. The graphics were very last-gen, but a bunch of those games looked like they would be a blast to play. The swordfighting game looked promising, and the Wii Sports thing looked like it would be a great party game.

Actually, I should add the same thing. Right now I want one on day 1 of release. I'm just disappointed they left arguably their best weapon against Sony lying on the table at (again, arguably) the best possible time to use it. That's slightly worrisome.
But the games look amazing.
The Zelda demonstration alone completely sold me, I'm just giddy at the thought of flinging the boomerang and aiming the bow. Even just moving the fairy around for menu management turned me into a flaming fanboi. It's amusing that Nintendo decided against doing the obvious sword swipe motions instead keeping that action tethered to the remote button, ultimately a gracious decision.
DS lineup is extraordinary. Yoshi's Island 2 headlines a nice swath of sequels/updates to some great franchises. Wonderful showing overall. I'll be there on launch day.

They might be holding back in case MS makes a huge announcement. God knows, Microsoft is good at making things look good. And this is their second public E3 for the 360 -- there will be second generation games being shown. That's a huge thing to fight against.

Nintendo doesn't have to announce the price yet. There is no reason to. They will be much less expensive than either the PS3 or 360 at Christmas time, and unlike the PS3, you'll actually be able to buy one in stores. They can time the price bombshell whenever they want to.
In the meantime we get to try out 27 games at E3....

I'm not sure this *is* the best time to announce the price point of the Wii. We're what, six months out from the release of the PS3? That gives Sony a lot of time to respond and maybe do something crazy like announce a lower price point, or announce the $600 unit will come bundled with a game. If I'm Nintendo (and if I'm MS and planning a price drop) I announce it in August when it'll be nearly impossible for Sony to react except through marketing.

I just have to say that they got me when Reggie talked about the move from 2D to 3D and what it meant in terms of immersion, and then applying that to the Wiimote.
Also - is there anyone else in this thread who found themselves grinning like an idiot with everything they managed to show? The first twenty minutes were nothing but pure joy for me.
I've been somewhat happy with my 360 (might be because I don't have Oblivion), but Wii just looks like it's going to be ridiculously fun. There's not much they didn't show that I didn't say to myself "I'd really like to see what that would be like."

Not that it was a bad display, but by not announcing a price, they really left a vulnerable Sony time to recover. $199 would have been a Sony killer, almost.
Being $100 less than PS2 & Xbox helped the GC not one little bit. IMHO, it made people think it was worth less than the other two.
The Rev will sell just fine at $300.

If launching with a Zelda game, a Mario platformer, and a Metroid game doesn't move units, nothing will. This certainly explains their lack of recent 1st-party support for the Cube. It was the smart thing to do, even with the Rev being backward-compatible.

Looks good in motion. The control scheme isn't at all obvious from looking at the screen, range of movement is very ambitious. I don't see how to make it flow well, but Mario games are all about flow so I can't imagine it being far from perfect.

I'm very curious to know as well, virtual console was mentioned a few times during the conference, but just in passing with no concrete details(though I swear they reaffirmed Genesis and Turbografx games again somewhere?). Surprising too given that those old 'n simple games can probably do quite a bit to attract new consumers. What's the model? What's the plan?

http://revolution.ign.com/articles/707/707865p1.html
Friend codes, no standardized system interface. I can't say I'm surprised, but am not too happy to hear this. It isn't at all developer friendly. As we've seen on the DS I imagine that few will care to put in the money and effort to implement online features. Friend codes are a royal pain in the ass. I wish Nintendo would just embrace the internet rather than stand away from a safe distance and prod at it.

I can see why they do it. Restrictions make it more family-friendly than the wide-open voice-chatting Live. Nintendo has to be horrified by the prospect of people hurling racial and sexual slurs on their systems.
