Well, I doubt it's a devkit as it's commonly understood. If so, I'll be buying one of those instead of a $400 360. :P

But the idea of a "Net Yaroze" type product for $100 for everyone is pretty cool, even if it is just for Live Arcade games (which would be what I presume they'd be talking about were this to come to pass).

My guess is that they meant that you only need a $100-level MSDN membership to get the XNA SDK and tools, or something like that, not actual hardware.

Yeah, Visual Studio Express + XNA or something?

If it was 100 bucks I'd even buy one!

You know just to try it out and stuff.

Really IMHO its a great idea.

Also what it could be is an add on to the existing 360 that allows debugging and running of certain unsigned code. Couple that with an xdk, and it should work. My guess, however, is that whatever it does, it won't allow full access to the hardware, because MS will still want to sell the full devkits to real developers.

But if they embrace the homebrew scene like this, I'll be picking up an xbox 360 asap. More companies need to do stuff like this.

If they do it.

Remember that getting a dev kit doesn't mean you actually get to publish your software on the Xbox 360. You still need Microsoft's approval.

I think it's possible that they make the development tools available for free or for a very low price, like the Visual Studio Express editions, so that interested people can tinker with it. But they very likely won't allow any games made with these low-cost tools to be published. They'd be inundated with worthless submissions otherwise.

For $100 it will be an SDK that runs on PC. There is no way on earth that they are going to sell dev kits for $100.

Most likely, but that SDK could potentially allow deploying and debugging to a standard xbox. Theoretically, anyway. If you couldn't run your created apps on the xbox itself, it wouldn't have much use.
