This seriously fucking pisses me off and I wish there was a way on ebay to limit people that could bid / buy. They all have 0 feedback and you cant limit who buys the item based on that which is fucking bullshit.

Really as a seller I am the one that ends up getting fucked because ebay in the end will still charge me some fee's. Fucking cock mongers the whole fucking lot of them. I am seriously fucking pissed off about this because I just wanna sell this fucking shit and move the fuck on. I have never had a problem like this before but this is the first time I have tried to sell something that was really high dollar on ebay.

I guess in the end ebay sucks a fat fucking cock for selling shit thats worth anything. Assholes.

OH YEAH!

And I did have one guy that wanted to buy it but now that the auction is over I need to either relist it so he can or figure something else out.

Seriously on the high dollar auctions ebay should have a limit as to who can bid / buy and people with 0 fucking feedback should not be allowed to bid / buy.

Fuckholes.

Do they not realize that nobody will ever again trust an e-mail from Nigeria? Why haven't they started saying they're from, say, Luxembourg? It makes no sense.

There's an option for that. You pay a few bucks extra.

Can't you "buy" feedback on ebay?

Sorry to hear about the issues, Ranv. I hope my dear Jenny Giwa wasn't involved.

Now that is just lazy. It is like a mad lib of ebay scammers and he couldn't even be bothered to fill it out.

I got scammed by someone buying a camera from me, who turned out to live less than 100 miles from me.

If you're a scammer, it's a really bad idea to scam someone who can drive to your own magistrate court in 90 minutes.

Ive mostly sold my old junky games so havent had much of a problem... but eBay is a hive of scum and villainy. And they dont give a shit.

Marcus
03-15-2006, 06:59 AM
I forgot that one as well.

Fucking assholes.

Hi,
your item are interesting to me as a gift to my friend from Ukraine. Can you send it direct to Ukraine (by the USPS EMS '3-5 days' ). I prefer payment method by paypal. I will pay the difference in shipping.
Thank you.

And they dont give a shit.

Thats really the way it feels.

Ive mostly sold my old junky games so havent had much of a problem

Yeah this is the first time I have ever tried to sell anything really worth anything and now that I See how it goes I doubt it will ever do it again.

And I did have one guy that wanted to buy it but now that the auction is over I need to either relist it so he can or figure something else out.

When I got dicked around trying to sell my Landrover I contacted the guy next down on the list and offered it to him at his bid price. With E-bay taking so long to sort everything out, we ended up exchanging E-mails, taking the deal outside and sorting everything out long before E-bay ever got round to getting their act together.

Marcus
03-15-2006, 08:37 AM
Yeah I emailed the guy but I have no heard back from him. I pretty much think this whole laptop selling deal has cost me way too much money at this point and I am about ready to say fuck it and keep the fucking thing I never use.

I got the very same- well similar- request when I sold a laptop a few months ago. It was an alleged nursing student moving to the UK and wanted it shipped to her fast.

I think that certain sales just trigger these requests. I have stopped getting angry about these things, like the request from PayPal i got today to veryify my account to keep it active.

I've often wondered if there are markets in Nigeria where one can buy lots of scammed laptops and electronics on the cheap.

Where are all these scammed models going? Surely there is some outlet specific to Nigeria.

Marcus
03-15-2006, 09:13 AM
Well the main reason it pisses me off is because it ends up costing me money... yeah not a lot but still a few bucks.

Really? I suppose I should expect that, I don't use CL for much, but I did just buy an old, classic BMW through them, and it was a pleasure all the way around. Guess I just got really lucky.

I tried to sell my iPod on CL and I got at least 10 of those emails very similar to the ones I get from ebay.

I sold a laptop through Craigslist and got the same kind of emails. I never answered those because I'm prejudiced against furriners. They seem to be trying to scam laptop sellers everywhere......

Even if you don't sell anything they find a way to scam you. One that i seem to get hit with alot is the fake profile on myspace, the last one was an American, widow of a plane crash victim (!) living in Michigan but studied in London, and the following day she/he must have forgotten as was now British living in London, working for the unicef US fund which was somehow based in London too, but just happened to be in Lagos for a conference and would i like to donate towards it ?

Normally I don't run the scammers for so long, but was clad in a false identity and couldn't be linked to my profile. The lads in IRC enjoyed the conversations though, I ran a commentary in my channel of the whole thing.

Marcus

Well I dont have to deal with the fucking scammers anymore. The dude from Thousand Oaks wants to buy it. He is gonna pay me in cash as well so that makes things easier.

I am getting a bit less then I wanted but whatever. I am just glad is fucking over.

How do these things work when they offer to pay you via PayPal? I've always waited for payment before sending anything. Do they just try to get you to ship it before paying?

I'm surprised that a bestselling author would stoop to eBay scamming. What is the world coming to?

Even if you wait, you'd better have a tracking # that can be used as proof of delivery or else the fuckers will contact Paypal, claim they never got what you sold them, and get their money back. Fuck eBay. Fuck Paypal.

If someone provides a FedEx number to get a laptop from you to Nigeria you could send them a brick in a box. Which would be beyond awesome. Even better than p-p-p-p

Fuck Paypal.
I'm down with all that. I set up a Paypal account when they first start in like 99 and then just let it expire (this was long before the hordes of scammers and back when Paypal had some honor). I recently brought the profile up to date so I could make one purchase of a book I really wanted. Did so, got the book, and now my Paypal account is again sitting there empty. Not going to use a service with no accountability.

I too feel eBay is just a nest of scambags. I see these jerks purcahsing 20 different things for 1 penny to artifically bump up their %'s.

What pisses me off is eBay doesn't keep the list of transactiosn active long enough to see what people sold/bought. That really makes me angry.

Rob Beschizza

The use of PayPal suggests immediately transfering receipts to a bank account. Probably best to use one from which PayPal cannot make withdrawals (i.e. a savings account of some kind, not your checking account.)

I assumed the paypal transactions would be from a phishing victim's account. Who will eventually try to get the transaction reversed, so either you or he will be the victim.

I sell lots of stuff on eBay but I never use PayPal. Cash or direct bank transfer only.

I composed something, but this buggerant forum timed me out.

It amounted to, "Doesn't ebay now make you accept Credit Cards if you accept bank transfers?"

The why is obvious: if PayPal gets a chargeback, they can just say "Sure!" and screw the seller. If a bank disputes a charge, they are the legally responsibly entity and cannot pass on any pain.

Have you ever tried to switch your PayPal funding source to use a credit card? You have to select it for each transaction (no default to the CC), they make you read a big warning about how terribly insecure it is to do so (nevermind the greater power you have to dispute a CC transaction, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain), and it still will use any PayPal balance before turning to the CC for funds.

Rob Beschizza

Two simple rules, and it goes for real life as well as ebay/paypal:

1) If you're buying, always buy with a credit card.

2) If you're selling, never accept a credit card.

Except that the economy would promptly collapse if everyone tried to follow that rule...

As for your question, I'm trading on German eBay where they can't force you to use credit cards since most people don't have one. They advertise their stupid PayPal system here, too, but I never use it.

Rob Beschizza

Except that the economy would promptly collapse if everyone tried to follow that rule...
.

I know, I as being a little facetious :) As a seller, credit cards are just fine if you have your own merchant account and good business practices. The problem is with the PayPal-type businesses, where you essentially have all the liability but no way to control the transaction system, which generates the liability.

The first point, though, "Always buy with a credit card," is for real. You buy with cash, you have to convince the seller to give you your money back or sue them. With debit card or check, the same applies: it is very difficult to convince your bank to go and bat for you if you're conned, unless the conner did something illegal with the banking system.

With a credit card, you can call your issuer and say pretty please give me my money back. As long as you're not obviously abusing the system, the issuer will say OK, give the merchant a few weeks to explain themselves, then ignore whatever the merchant says and stiff them on your behalf.

PayPal's terms of service, just so y'all know, explicitly states that by using their service, you waive your statutory consumer protection rights and agree never to call your credit card provider to dispute a purchase made via paypal.

My thoughts exactly. Anyone active on Something Awful know if the end part was just added to spice the story up (and wether the whole thing is true in the first place)?
