All Nippon know Sparky. Her in Tokyo very big - but not big as Gojira. Rubber Kaiju suit make ass not look fat in. Gojira, ass does make fat in suit, but atomic breath having - so not telling him about!!

I know that Sparky and I are uber-fan kiddies of the cheesy monster movies of yesteryear. I bet some others are too - so lets talk about them.

I do, of course, own every Godzilla movie ever made. Yes, that includes the American not-Godzilla movie too, but the Apache helicopters with the 30mm cannons mounted on the side of the cockpit almost made this ex-crewchief leave the theatre.

Godzilla favorites -

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (90's remake, kicked MUCH ass)
Godzilla vs. Destroyah (Featuring the atomic meltdown of Godzilla)
The origninal (Hard to beat Raymond Burr's radio commentary as G smokes down the town.)

Other movies of note -

Earth vs. The Flying Saucers - Ray Harryhausen ownz. This was better than ID4. MUCH better. I can't seem to find it on DVD though.

Gamera movies - well, they were riddled with obnixious little japanese boys - but I heard the new remakes are supposed to be the best of monster movies. Dunno, haven't seen one. Comments?

I've seen almost all of the Japanese giant monster movies. Don't like the old Gamera ones, but I gotta admit that in the latest series, Gamera III is better than any recent Godzilla.

Good Godzillas:

- the original is still easily the best one, and the only movie that I think could actually be called a "good" movie.
- concur on the Godzilla vs. Mech remake. The best of the last run of Japanese movies, which commenced with the 1984 reboot.
- for pure fun, nothing beats King Kong vs. Godzilla. It's too bad Toho couldn't get permission to do a remake.

Earth vs. Flying Saucers hasn't been released on DVD. Neither has King Kong, or its sequel, Son of Kong.

Godzilla Vs. Monster Zero isn't great as G-films go, but the scene where he does a jig all "Riverdance" style is classic. My favorite recent one is Godzilla Vs. Destroyah (1995). I must admit I get all choked up when Big G dies. (No spoiler there -- come on, the poster for Gvs.D said "GODZILLA DIES!" on it)

The recent Gamera movies are quite good, for turtle movies.

I grew up watching Chiller Theater on Friday nights at 11:30 with Fritz the Night Owl, a man who was never seen in public around Columbus, Ohio, without his huge, dark owl glasses. I remember him referring to Gamera one night as "a flying, flaming, overweight hockey puck."

Lol,Sloth!I grew up watching Fritz too.It was pretty cool back then,they'd actually show old movies on tv,rather than the reruns and blather that are always on network tv nowadays.Double chiller theater on Friday night was usually worth watching.

Double Chiller Theater! I couldn't remember the double part, kept wanting to say Monster Chiller Theater, but that would be 3/4ths of the way to Count Floyd's Monster Chiller Horror Theater, which was not what I remembered.

Double your monsters, double your fun! That's right, two monster movies are better than one, especially when you could usually count on one involving a latex-encased Japanese person smashing a balsawood replica of Tokyo, whist hordes of more Japanese persons wearing white helmets run past screaming.

In Cleveland we had Ghoulardi who was played by Ernie Anderson who went on to be ABC's main voice-over announcer. In his first couple of years as Ghoulardi, his sidekick was Tim Conway.

I remember watching Chiller Theater in Columbus when I went to Ohio State. As for the Japanese films: "The Egg! You must return the Egg!"

When he was ten or so, my husband won a contest on the Captain Cosmic show, and Bob totally mangled his name on the air ("No..nur...ner...nerpkin?"). You'd think Captain Cosmic would have encountered a few alien languages out there, you know, in space...a Norwegian name shouldn't have flustered him.
