View Full Version : Hey Brett, I mean Toddy...

What's with the switch to Toddy, Brett? A little confusing, not to mention kind of goofy. Why not The Toddster, Brettman, Toddomatic, or go the Geryk route with Brettski? Toddy is a little weak for changing nicks midwar, I mean stream.

Or are we not supposed to pay attention to the man behind the curtain?

Brett Todd has a username change, and is now Toddy. Note that this is a change and not a new account. All of the Brett Todd posts from years ago now appear to have been authored by "Toddy".

Yeah, I guess that was a little ambiguous. Brett Todd is now Toddy (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/member.php?u=149). I think the only other name change of an existing member has been Bruce Geryk to Brooski (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/member.php?u=166). Just wondering what the deal was.

Not alternate accounts, a name change on an existing account.

In reality I just want to be close to my idol Joe.

At least one of the names in that image was a name change.

Also I just kind of want to see it again, for old times' sake.

The most recent version of the chart posted here included Adam at Sierra > Menzo, so it did include name changes. I had a version current up to TSG's name change that I was too lazy to upload, but now seems like a good time for an update.

What does "gently touched" mean (in the nice pictorial).

When the Derek/Cleve/Huffman banning debate was going on, The Entity got so tired of the discussion of banning that every mention of the word "ban" was automatically replaced by "gently touch".

Ergo, "We should ban Toddy" would become "We should gently touch Toddy." It's now just a euphemism for banning.

The opposite is also true, by the way. At night, I often ban myself to sleep.

Steve Canyon

Steve Canyon is the perfect name for me.

As VegasRobb points out, it's a comic strip of a middle aged man who had been a jet fighter in the Korean War. The perfect name for an older guy who loves flight simulations. Ok, not as old as the oldest on the board--certainly not Korean war era--but older nonetheless.

I had no idea about the porn star bit Ben mentions, but a healthy dose that sort of thing seems only fitting for a man who fights the power when it comes to annoying video store clerks and is the proud owner of the longest penis thread on the board (by far).

That must be why the call it banning the bishop (not to be confused with prohibiting the pope, excluding the eccleasiastic, or preventing the papists!)

DeepT
01-16-2006, 07:38 AM
I have contemplated changing my name to "The Silver Hammer" for a few reasons:

1. People often think DeepT means Deep Throat.

2. When searching for random email addresses to send spam to, DeepT is only 5 letters, so I quickly get on lots of spam mail lists. TheSilverHammer, is fairly long, and so far, on both of my private email accounts, I have never gotten any junk mail.

3. I like the personification (in my mind at least) of "The Silver Hammer" over "DeepT". That is, a person of good, a defender of innocents, etc... opposed to a Deep Thinker. The former is a more noble ideal to live up to.

4. Occasionally there are other "DeepT"s running around, mostly using the nick because of some guy on X-Files.

However, reasons not to:
Everyone who has gotten to know me over the years as DeepT (I have used this nick for about 15 years) will not know who I am anymore. Just one day, DeepT would dissapear and this new guy would show up.

Not sure that Maxwell was using his for the betterment of society. Because when I see "silver hammer", the first thing I think about is a song about a serial killer.

Yeah, same association.

I picked "Qenan" (old EQ name) because I didn't want to be googled. There aren't any giant plusses to telling future employers that I'm interested in games, since I don't work in that industry. I've thought about changing it, but don't really want to lose my history (such as it is).

Beatles song "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". Maxwell is a serial killer, as described in the song.

I've considered asking for a slight misspelling to be added to my name, e.g. Beschiza instead of Beschizza. No-one will think I'm trying to become my own multiple personality disorder sockpuppet, if they even notice at all, and I don't have to worry about the top hit for my name in Google being some lurid joke about greek prostitutes.

EDIT: So I googled myself, and thanks to the nature of teh dynamic interweb, this very post is already effectively the top google hit. I must be posting here way too often for my profile page and thus latest post to be no.1
