It's terrific. The game is much better than the original Tropico, in my opinion. FC has taken out all the tedious, dry parts and added a lot of fun, while at the same time increasing the strategic depth. Moreover, T2 includes a powerful, flexible scripting system that allows you to tweak and design games to your heart's content.

I went into this game with my extreme skeptic's hat on, but I'm now sold 100%. It's GOTY material, imo, as far as sequels can ever be. In fact, while its heritage is obvious, it finally ends up being more different from Tropico than most RTS's are from C&C or Warcraft.

(Note that the demo is dumbed down quite a bit and set at a relatively easy difficulty level so as not to scare everybody off, but we've been assured by Bill Spieth over on the Cafe Tropico forums that the full game will provide all the challenge you'll need. Given his track record, I believe him.)

Been playing the demo, and I really like what I see. Definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of the original.

Yeah, when I say it's GOTY material, I don't mean there's any real chance of it ever winning GOTY, what with all the unspoken rules and politics involved in choosing those games. But Tropico 2 is a true gamer's game. Like Murph said, if you liked Tropico's design and general style of play (while perhaps you didn't like as much its slow pace and tediousness in certain areas), then it's definitely worth checking out.

It's too short. :-( I mean, yeah, it's just a beta demo, but...Man, it's short! Sure makes me look forward to the full version, though -- one of the few games this year I'm really, really excited about.

From Bill Spieth, Frog City:

"On the question of another demo, the decision has not been made. So I can't promise anything."

So don't give up hope. Personally, I think we're going to see one between now and release. 8)

The best thing about Tropico was the music selection. I hope Tropico2 has the same people responsible for picking the music.

Same composer, better music. At least the two selections included with the demo are better (and Tropico's music was, as you say, great).

Maybe I should download the demo... Sounds great (loved the original tropico- add in pirates: I'm sold).

Heh, I doubt I'm the only one who bought LMS's Tropico soundtrack. I still listen to it now and then, even though I haven't played the game in over a year.

Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the readme.txt file for some mighty fine pirate humor! Ar!

Actually, I was kinda disappointed because I've been telling that joke for years, only much better (iidssm). But it is one of the best jokes ever :)
