IWD2 Sound problems

I'm experiencing a strange sound bug in IWD2. Sometimes in/after battles a sound effect begins to stutter i the background. As I continue to play the stutter increases in tempo, and eventually it sounds like a train passing by. the only solution I've found so far is to quit and restart the game.

The game is patched with the latest patch. I've checked the official boards for any mention of this problem and there is none.

Has anyone else here experienced this problem?

I faced a similar problem that seemed to be related to either big battles or pausing during action (related times, obviously). But the sound was like static. It stuttered, but it sounded like bad static and, yes, roaring, like what you are describing. I never found a way to fix it other than restarting the game. I use an Soundblaster Audigy card, and to be fair, I haven't upgraded my sound drivers in a bit. But IWD2 was the only game where I xped a problem.

IIRC though, I was able to save the game before restarting without ill effects.

I forgot to mention my soundcard. That is, I don't have one, my motherboard handles it all. It's a VIA, and I have the latest drivers for it.

Have you tried installing the "PCI Latency" patch for VIA chipsets (http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/) ?
