Check out.. Out of Hell

http://www.geocities.com/outofhellmod/

It's prety much a zombie fest, kinda like They Live but the graphics will blow that game out of the water. It kinda reminds me of Silent Hill. I'm going to be keeping an eye on this one till completion.

What's not to like? It's a horror game that uses the awesome UT2K3 engine, it's free and it's single player. And the developer seems to be committed to this project. I've spoken with him and he is working on this game alone. No outside help. He told me that he wants to make the game as scary as possible... Kinda in the same feign as Night of the Living Dead. Where melee weapons make up the bulk of your charactes weapons.

looks good.....

:D

I checked out those screenshots, and couldn't see any character models! Just backgrounds.

Those backgrounds look exactly like a Nine Inch Nails or nu metal album cover.

There are a few UT2003 mods that I am watching for. Hopefully at least one of each type will actually see distribution.

Resistance and Liberation (http://www.resistanceandliberation.com/news/news.html), which is the standard WWII-themed multiplayer. I love these kind of games, and it would be nice to have a graphics upgrade from the aging HL or UT engines.

Red Orchestra (http://www.unrealwarfarex.com/redorchestra/index.php?module=htmlpages&func=display&pid=1), another WWII-themed conversion, but focused on the Eastern Front. It has iron sights implemented, like Infiltration or The Third Reich.

Tactics (http://www.unrealwarfarex.com/tactics/), which is a CS clone, but again I'd like the significant graphic upgrade. Check out the render of the USP .45. That looks like a picture of the real thing.

Primal Discord (http://www.planetunreal.com/primaldiscord/), another realistic-style mod.

Heat Mod (http://adrenaline.fragland.net/), another realistic-style mod, but it has iron sights implemented.

Isn't there also a Star Wars mod in the works? I remember seeing some early screenshots of one. Looked pretty good.

There's always a Star Wars mod in the works for every moddable game ever. I bet if you looked hard enough, you could find one for Neverwinter Nights.

Yes, Troopers. http://www.ut2003troopers.co.uk/

As Matthew says, there's always a Star Wars mod for everything, but these guys seem to have their acts together more than past ones. Of course, what I'd really like is the Battlefield 1942 Star Wars mod (http://www.swbattlefield.com) to come together, because there really hasn't been a good combined arms SW FPS and I doubt there will be a professional one for some time.

These guys must be damn good, because how the hell are they making bf1942 mods if they don't have the tools to work with? EA hasn't released the kit for bf1942 yet, so how are they making mods for this game?

I'm checking out some of these mods and I have to say WOW!! Most are multiplayer though, right? I would like to find some more single player mods, because if done right they could definitley compete with some PC games that are prefessionally released. That's my opinion...

Yeah, there isn't an SDK for 1942 yet (and one may never get released) but there are still mods for it, just not total conversions. Essentially modders can replace the vehicles, skins, maps, etc, but they're unable to alter the gameplay mechanics beyond what's available in the config files. Even at that, they're limited by the user made tools that allow you to mess with the BF data formats.

The thing is, they can probably do a fairly accurate recreation of say, Hoth, without changing the standard BF gameplay. But if you read their forums, there are all sorts of problems that they won't be able to get around. You can't play an alien race because all the BF1942 soldiers are based off of one model with different skins; you can't have "pilot" classes because 1942 is set up to be classed only by weapons load-out. Without an SDK, they'll be fairly limited in what they can do, but it still sounds fun -- for those not in full "fuck star wars" mode :)
