The sale is coming back! This week until Saturday, you can get any games $19.99 and below this way. That's not nearly as good as the one coming in later October though.

Oct 23-29 will be the sale dates this year and portable games (DS, GBA, PSP) are not included. It seems like this will be all current consoles at the same time though.

This was posted at Cheap Ass Gamer and GAF. Not 100% confirmed until the flyer comes out, but save some pennies now just in case. Shadow of the Colossus ships that week I think. Fire Emblem the week before.

The biggest problem with this deal is I always buy stuff and it gathers dust until the next time they do it becuase I'm dum. ;)

Dave Long

This week is games $19.99 and under. IOW, buy two Greateast Hits PS2 games and get a third for free. All games in your deal this week must be $19.99 or less. (They have a green tag sale right now and those games are also 50% off.)

In a few weeks, they'll have the bigger sale where all console games (GC, Xbox, PS2) will be buy 2 get 1 free.

Thanks for the heads up Dave. I've taken advantage of this the last couple of years and had forgotten all about it this year.

Hmm, Far Cry Instincts, Fire Emblem: PoR and maybe SSX: On Tour.

Wholly Schmidt

Hmmm, so I can't think of 3 $50 games I want. Looking over recent and new releases (up to that week), I'd love to pick up Shadow of the Colossus, We Love Katamari, and Soul Calibur 3, but I feel like I'm not getting my money's worth not buying $50 games. Are there any recent PS2 or Xbox games I'm overlooking?

Dave Long
10-16-2005, 05:52 PM
Well, option one is buy yourself a cheap, used Gamecube and then get Fire Emblem. ;)

Option two would be one of the following maybe?

Stubbs the Zombie (getting good press, by one of the Halo guys)
The Warriors
Battlefield 2 Modern Combat (if you don't have the PC BF2)
Ratchet Deadlocked
Resident Evil 4 PS2
Spartan Total Warrior (no clue how good it is...)

Those are some upcoming options. Going on early reviews alone, I'd pick Stubbs.

Oh yeah, Stubbs! I totally forgot about that. I know almost nothing about it except hearing that the press was basically good, I need to investigate that. Also, if this picture of a unicorn wailing on a guitar is any indication:

I may just have to get SSX On Tour as well.

Usually when something appears at Cheap Ass Gamer, you can kinda count on it being for real. It'll be in the paper this coming Sunday if it is and someone will probably post the ad by like Thursday of this week cuz inevitably someone gets ahold of it early.

If that sells more than Psychonauts there is something dreadfully wrong with this world, and I say that having grown up Episcopalian =)

Looking Like Stubbs, Warriors, and either Ultimate Spiderman or that Hulk game for me.

If I do a second set it might be at $39.99.... Cthulhu, Ninja Gaiden (never played the original) and something else, dunno what tho.

I might have to go with two sets of games for this. So far my list is:

Soul Calibur 3
Fire Emblem
Shining Force Neo
Indigo Prophecy
Mario All Star Baseball
SSX on Tour
Shadow of the Colossus
Pheonix Wright
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

These are all things that I think I'll eventually end up buying now I just have to figure out how much I can afford at once.

I just got back from TRU with:

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat w/ bongo controller
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance
Burnout Revenge
Ninja Gaiden Black
X-Men Legends XBX
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection XBX

$74.18 will be knocked off the receipt when I go in and have the price adjusted Sunday. $51.00 in cash will be replaced by my Paypal account funds ($34.00) and selling my old copies of Ninja Gaiden and Fable.

When all is said and done, I only paid $113.26 with tax for all of that.

Usually, there is a sale online too, but not one that allows you to mix and match games nor one that allows you to just pick anything in the store. They have select games eligible for the deal when you do it online.

If you have a Toys R Us near you, then go to the store.

Are there pc games in this deal? not quite understanding how it works...

Dave Long
10-21-2005, 05:22 PM
No PC games.

You simply buy two games at any price and get a third of equal or lesser value to the cheapest of your two purchased games for free. These can be from the Xbox, PS2 or Gamecube sections of the store.

You buy two games for $49.99 each and you can pick a third game that's normally $49.99 and they will give it to you for free.

If you buy one game that's $49.99 and another that's $19.99, then you can pick a third game that's $19.99 or less and get that for free.

I'm not sure what's so hard to understand?

Dave Long

It starts on Sunday and will run through the following Saturday. That means you should be prepared to wait until like Thursday if you want a game that's coming out during next week. TRU doesn't usually get games on the first day of release.

I repeat. Look for the ad in your Sunday paper and it should tell you Sunday through Saturday.

No time travel necessary.

By the way, online you can't mix and match systems or price levels, at all. Not even if you buy two $50 PS2 games and want a $20 PS2 game free. Oh well. Still good.

The Warriors, SOCOM 3, and Fire Emblem for my $49 trio. Genji, Haunting Ground, and Rise of the Kasai for my $39 trio. In the green tag section I found TOCA Race Driver 2, Ghosthunter, and Test Drive: Eve of Destruction (Xbox), got all three for a total of $21.86.

I don't know how TRU manages to afford this sale every year, but I sure am glad they do it.

If I were you then, I'd go with some combination of Burnout Legends, Soul Calibur 3, Fire Emblem, and Xmen Legends 2, based just on pricing.

Shadow of Colossus is $40 to begin with, SSX on Tour is on sale for $40 this week at Best Buy, Stubbs probably won't do well enough to stay at $50 for long (and from other threads around here, maybe it's not worth $50), and I'm sure Indigo won't be at $50 for long either.

Those are some pretty good points. Thanks for the tips. It would be nice to maximize the potential of the sale with $50 purchases.

I had actually planned on picking up Indigo Prophecy for the PC, where it is already selling for $40 and will likely drop in price rather quickly. This sale just gave me a way to get it cheaper and an excuse to get it earlier.

The only one that is a definite is Burnout Legends. The other two are still up in the air, although Soul Calibur 3 is looking pretty promising at the moment.

By the way folks, the sale is up online now too:

Picked up:

Romance of the 3 kingdoms X PS2

Soul Calibur 3
Shining Force Neo
Mario Allstar Baseball

I came home with the following today:

Burnout Revenge
SSX on Tour
Fire Emblem for the Cube

I also did my good deed for the day and steered a little kid from LA Rush to Burnout Revenge. I'm sure Tom would approve.

The shelves in ToysRUs weren't bare but they were running low on some of the more popular games. I'm very tempted to go back on Wednesday and trade Fire Emblem in for Soul Calibur 3, if I can avoid opening the package of the former until then.

I'm probably going tomorrow, they better have Shadow of the Colossus or I'm going to be miffed! Other than that I'm thinking Shining Force Neo and Hulk Ultimate Destruction but there's a few others I don't mind rotating in their place.

The question on Stubbs is whether there were enough of them shipped to be around for a price drop. It was a pretty low print run, from what I hear. This may be a moot point in this case, though, since not one of the four TRUs we went to yesterday and today had Stubbs.

Seems like Amazon has Blitz: The League for XBox at $39.99, which is coning me (or at least, looks like it is) because it doesn't fit with the two $49.99 games (Fire Emblem GC and X-Men Legends 2).
