Saudi Arabia's King Fahd dead at 82. Been pretty much a nonfactor since a stroke in the early 90's, but this could get ugly fast with the succession issues at stake.

The King is dead! Long live the King!
Seriously, yeah, this could be interesting.

What impact? Fahd's been pretty much out of it since his stroke. Abdullah's been running the country for ten years. He'll become king in a completely smooth transition. The problem's going to be when Abdullah dies, which won't be too far off, because the guy is 79.

Haha there are no succession issues. Abdullah's already solidified power.

Let me tell you 'bout A-hab, The A-rab,
The sheik of the burning sand
He had emeralds and rubies just dripping offa him
And a ring on every finger of his hands
He wore a big ol' turban wrapped around his head
And a scimitar by his side
And every evening, about midnight
He'd jump on his camel named Clyde
And ride...
It's time for a regime change. Let us bring freedom and democracy to the people of Saudi Arabia!

The king called up his jet fighters
He said, You better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
Down on casbah way

Wow, someone else remembers that song.
My impression is that Abdullahs been the king in everything but name for a decade now.
