I like Zombies which has everyone on the red team except one player who is on the green team. There are no nades and no vehicles. the red team can only use shotguns the green team swords. When a green player kills a red that red must immediatly switch to green team the winner of the game is the last remaing red team player

You mean the player is expected to, of his own free will, switch to the other team? Yeah, that'll go over well on public servers.

Wouldn't zombies work better if the teams were the other way around?

I'm a big fan of a game type my friends and I used to call Cut-Throat, but since another game type is called that, I don't know what we call it now. No shields, no starting grenades, default primary shotgun, random secondary. Each kill is a point, each death costs a point, each suicide costs two. First to five points wins. This creates a situation where if one player hits 4 points, it's in everyone else's best interest to team up and kill him so he doesn't win. However, the kill may push someone else up to 4, at which point everyone turns on that player. Very fast paced, you die a lot, it's fun.

The other favorite is Master Hill, a KotH variant. No shields, shotgun default primary, Covenant carbine default secondary, starting grenades active. You must dominate the hill to score time, the hill moves every minute, first to three minutes total wins. This is essentially a meat grinder. The shotgun provides close combat power, the carbine can take potential threats out at a great distance in one shot if you're good enough. The grenades are useful for clearing the entire hill out in one blast. Among players of more or less equal skill, this variant almost always results in a really close match.

Another one that isn't played as much but can be enjoyable is Team Warthog. You'll need an even number of players, teams of two. Normal shields, starting grenades, default primary pistol, no secondary default. Take a large map, change the vehicles to Gauss Warthogs, each team grabs a Warthog if at all possible, and go to town. If you really want to play purist on this one, change all weapons on the map to pistols. If you really want everyone frustrated as hell, change all weapons on the map to rocket launchers.

Actually, it works great. I've played it almost exclusively on public servers.

I like Matt's cut-throat as well.

Asshole: Team King of the Hill where every member of the team needs to be on the hill for at least 1 minute. Naturally, the guy on each team with the lowest time is the Asshole.

Crazy Asshole is the same game, but the hill moves randomly every 30s

Multiball Madness: Team Oddball with the maximum number of balls in play (3 or 5, I'm not sure). Team that reaches 10 minutes of possession first wins.

So we heard. (http://www.quartertothree.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=461334#461334)

BTW, are there any PC shooters that are this flexible with the rule sets? I know you can dink around with UT mutators until the cows come home, but is there anything on the PC that lets you quickly invent game types on-the-fly like you can do in Halo?

Halo PC :)

On a somewhat related note, an amusing and moderately entertaining Halo PC -> Halo 2 mod was recently released. It has some decent production values, especially compared to the (practically nonexistent) competition. If you're interested, you'll need to download Halo: Custom Edition PC here (http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/index.php?p=games&game=halo) and the mod here (http://www.halo2ce.epgservers.com/09oljpdg0g09/Direct2U_full.exe).

I was expecting demands for some motherfucking chocolate milk. I am disapointed.
