Anyone else play this home-grown racing sim? The S2 alpha has just been released to the public and it is a big step forward compared to the S1 release. Along with the excellent new physics modeling, new cars and tracks, all of the S1 content has been upgraded too.

I'm sure Live for Speed is good and I keep meaning to try it. However, any sim racing fan that hasn't purchased GTR is really missing out. By far the most customizable (truly from arcade to full-on Papyrus-level simulation) and most user friendly (download car setups right in the game!) racing simulation ever made IMO.

Haven't had the time to check out the S2 demo yet, but had a great time with S1 and will definitely pick up its sequel. And I second the recommendation for GTR. GT Legends, the GTR sequel, looks really great so far as well. And more interesting than GTR due to the set of cars used.

Absolutely love GTR. My review will be in an upcoming issue of CGM. It's a revelation.

I completely agree that GTR is an outstanding racing game and deserves all the praise it has been receiving. I had been playing it almost exclusively since picking it up over a month ago. However, and this is not to take anything away from GTR, I encourage people who are interested in racing games to have a look at LFS:S2 also. After playing LFS:S2 for the last week and then going back and forth between GTR and LFS, I have to admit that I prefer LFS. In fact, I'm hooked. It has its weak points -- engine sounds, merely adequate cockpit graphics, weak user interface, the devs chose to depict fictional cars and tracks rather than deal with licensing legal issues -- some of which may be game breakers for some people, but the feel of driving, the complexity of the physics modeling, the variety of cars and tracks and the sheer thrill of racing are all top flight.

Apparently, a lot of people over at RaceSimCentral agree, if a poll (http://forum.rscnet.org/poll.php?s=46f181fd5d25848ad2d0f904506f59ac&do=showresults&pollid=2129) being run over there is any indication. Even factoring in the fact that LFS has just been released and that the novelty factor is almost certainly driving up its numbers, that's still an impressive showing.

I've been playing LFS for a long time, but need to get the new release. To me, LFS models what it would be like to take my personal car to the track (I prefer the low horsepower cars in LFS). Not a purpose-built racer, but a sim of weekend SCCA racing. My boys and I play the heck out of it.
