Does anyone playing Hot Shots Golf on the PSP know Japanese? One of the character, Julie, has a little victory animation where she writes something in Japanese and then holds it up to show you. What does it say?

Is there a way to post the screenshot? Maybe someone else here who reads Japanese can translate.

If that wasn't an invitation to Sparky to work her photoshop magic, I don't know what is.

I think I remember the character you are talking about, but it was around 6 months ago that I played this game and blimey if I can't remember what that said. Got a screenshot?
My best guess is that it had some typical Japanese victory slogan on it, like rakushou (easy victory), yatta (I did it) or nippon ichi (I'm the best).
日本一
やった!
楽勝
Do these look familiar to what you see in the game?

Question marks? Nope.
You don't have the character encoding enabled that will display what he wrote properly. Of course, neither do I or anyone else, I'd imagine.

I see it fine. Sadly I don't own the game to make any call on which one, if any, is right.

Er, isn't 日本一 literally Japan #1?

What does bad ass literally mean in English? It's slang.

The bad in "bad ass" actually means something like "overwhelmingly cool". Samuel Jackson is bad. Darth Maul is bad. The ass is just thrown in for flavor, really, but it has a connotation that the person doesn't care about being polite.

I know that, but just like if you take bad ass literally, it means a horrible anus or donkey, but if you know the slang or cultural context, it means something different, same with nippon ichi, that's the point.

How would you say bad donkey in japanese? I'm going to start some new slang!

Isn't there a word, something like "Kisama" or somesuch, that means "lord of the donkeys" or basically a giant jackass?

Oh. I didn't realize you were answering the post about nippon ichi.

I wanna know how to say "gay ass", which is slang for "happy donkey", in Japanese.

Kitsune, thanks for your help, but none of those seems to match Julie's little victory animation. She only does it when she gets par on a hole, so I suspect it's not quite as boastful as her birdie or eagle animations.
Maybe I'll try to take a picture with a digital camera.

This thread helped me to realize that Gamespot.com is now blocked at work. I hadn't visited there in a good 3 or 4 months from work. I think my company determines blockage based upon bandwidth first, content (that's non-pornographic) second. IGN and Gamespy still work...

I've been playing the bejesus out of this game lately, and one thing has me a little curious. I've been in th "beginner" class forever because I can't seem to earn enough stars to advance. I've beaten every opponent, won every tournament and even went back and beat some older ones. I've played all of them repeatedly.
Any suggestions?

I haven't touched the game in recent months, but it sounds like you're not playing in the career mode (or whatever it's called).
You need to play that to unlock all the modes, courses, etc.

Based on that, it could be 平常心, 'heijoushin' (apologies if you can't read that) which would mean something like 'keep calm' or 'relax'.
(This could be totally wrong, it would really help to be able to actually see it.)

Out of curiousity, what was the problem? Were you not scrolling up on the tournament selection screen?

No, I thought that I had already won a couple of things that I hadn't, I was overlooking them. DOH
