SOUND? (http://www.quartertothree.com/inhouse/columns/42/)

This would be the one for the Smart Spin, I don't know if it comes up every time on that page or not. Ugh.

Edit: Ok, it's not every time, I reloaded and got something else. But it's a banner ad version of an informercial, and it never shuts up.

Heh... what's so annoying about a button? I use Flashblocker for Firefox.... It replaces all flash elements with buttons you can click if you actually want to see the damn things.

Seriously, flash ads are so annoying I gladly pay the price of clicking on the occasional animation I actually want to see. And when I visit some website that is all buttons, I know it's a crappy flash-based website I don't really want to visit anyway....

Also, that way you don't have to worry about the PIEs, the flash-instigated popups, and you can forget about evil flash ads taking over your camera and mike and all that crap... though admittedly you can use the secret macromedia control app to turn that stuff off.

What is the ad? Any information? Just saying it is on that page doesn't really help.

Is it the banner on the top? The side? Can you remember any words from the banner?

The best thing is if you can, save the link it goes to, or the img source. But if not - where you saw it, if it is on the side or top, and the company name etc.

chet,

Just got the ad myself and clicked it. Here's where it goes - https://www.asseenontvnetwork.com/vcc/merchant/smartspin/128788/

I have to agree, while I'm all for banner ads, audio ads are irritating.

That's the one. Though after clicking on it and watching it, I have to say that that does sound like a useful product!

It's awesome. Changed my life.
(I'm a stay-at-home dad who does the dishes so this product really has improved my quality of life in a measurable way. My wife has a tupperware collection and finding a goddam lid was a chore and a half. I'm not proud.)

In theory. I've had issues with Flashblocker in that some Flash elements (often times movie viewers) simply won't load when you tell it to.

I decided that there were enough things in this world that I wanted/needed to view in Flash, despite my disdain for it, that it wasn't worth risking breaking all Flash support over it.

I'll agree with Andrew, though. That product really does kick a lot of kitchen storage ass. Even if the web ads are horribly obnoxious.

There's an Adult Swim banner in the rotation now -- an animated one that starts out with some inoffensive panels but then ends up with three looping frames of obnoxious swirling static. It's physically unpleasant to have on the screen.
