View Full Version : A9 better than Google?

I've been a google fan for years, and it's been my primary search engine for a long time. Lately, however, I've found myself using A9 a hell of a lot more. I find that I prefer it's search results, and love the way it can display different types of results, such as images and reference material, simutaneously. Overall, I think I've been having more fun searching for stuff lately than I've had in a long time.

Anyone else here try A9 yet?

I'm not trying to market anything, serously. :) I was just curious on other folks' opinion on this topic. I guess my post did sound kinda like margeting voodoo-hoodoo, sorry about that.

I was in an EB the other day while perusing the mall for last minute Christmas items. It's saddened me of late that their PC game section keeps shrinking, let alone that they wouldn't take any of my used PC games for trade a little while back.

What really disgusted me, however, was now they're offering warranties for FRIGGING GAMES. Not the systems or other hardware, but the games themselves. It's only a couple of bucks per game, sure, but I find this practice sickening, and now have vowed to never shop at EB again.

If I have to buy a game now, I know a local independent PC game store over in Pasadena that I'll happily support, or I'll buy games online through GoGamer or Amazon. Screw EB. I didn't like them while I was working for them, now I despise them.

i used it when i first saw a slashdot blurb on it, i was immediately creeped out that it remembered my searches from one machine to the next. i don't want my boss seeing the freaky shit i searched for from home last night.

it's probably a good thing if you're not a degenerate though. they use google as their backend from what i can tell.

Yeah Brain. That is a pretty nice blog. B'marked.

As for A9, didn't no it existed but I'll try it now. Been using Clusty as well. Google seems like it takes longer to weed through the junk these days.

Cool, I didn't think anyone was reading my little blog. Thanks! :)i was just googling +"brian rubin" +amazon to find fodder for my withering character assault. it fell kinda flat for lack of ammunition though :/

Brian is obviously not affiliated with Amazon and hence gets the Official Seal of Authenticity.

Thanks Stroker, I'll refrain from using my Burt Reynolds insult now. ;) Rob, thanks for the compliment. ;) BTW, what's clusty?

Whenever I hear about a new search engine, I always look up a particular painter whose work I love. He's obscure enough that it serves as nice test case. Google won my heart way back when by finding 5-6 cites I hadn't seen before. The MSN search that was styled after Google failed to win me over with only 1, maybe 2, new cites. A9 is impressive, with at least ten new cites, and I'm still just starting really going through them. Cluster has found one new cite, but it's not really anything interesting, and the site layout seems really cluttered after getting used to google's minimalist design.

A9 is giving me so much new content, that it's going to force me to update my 1997-era page about the painter.

If you use A9 regularly, you get 1.57079633% off your Amazon orders.

But I still prefer straight-up Google for ease of switching between Google Groups, News, Froogle, etc.

I honestly didn't know that. It's an even more compelling reason to use it. ;)

They also have a firefox toolbar, that has mobile bookmarks, and an annotation function.
