dr mike did the awesome "the strangers" mod for ff. he had a new one out called "tales of the navigator," and he just finished up the second part. try not to hammer his server too badly...
he also did a very cool thing where he put people's hero ideas and avatars from the freedom reborn forum into his mod. the chick with the giant slug sticking out the back of her head was my contribution. check it out! :D
click "tales of the navigator" > "downloads" to get to the d/l
he had to make room by taking down the concluding part of his strangers mod, in case you never played it before and get it now.

If Irrational or EA would ever fix the WinXP SP2 problem, I'd love to reload FF.

Amen. No FF for me.

What's the SP2 problem? I just fired up my copy, and while it flashed an error message about being incompatible when I tried running it, the game appeared okay.

For me, it flashes a message about being incompatible, and then promptly crashes hella hard.

Me too. :( Can't wait for the new one to come out so I can get my spandex fix.

Yup, same for me. Damned shame, really, as I love FF.

We are working on fixing it. We're torn between doing that and working on Freedom Force vs The Third Reich.

Psst! Work on a converter that lets you play the original missions in the new game!

For those having problems with XP SP2, I'm curious if you apply the "fix" listed here (http://www.freedomfans.com/forums/index.php?board=11;action=display;threadid=3333;st art=msg29549#msg29549) then restart your system, works at all. It seems to be a hit or miss thing, but it couldn't hurt to try.
For me, I just completely re-installed FF, applied the v1.2 patch, then checked the radio button for "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" and have no problems playing, other than the usual "there's been an error, would you like to report it" that only appears after I've left the game.

Alan, buddy, you are welcome to try to write that converter...
Updated versions of ff1 missions are an interesting concept though...

Weird. I've got the Sold Out re-release, and it works fine - I've been working through the Strangers campaign for the last couple of days.
