I am considering a playstation 2 purchase for Christmas. I had not even considered this as a possible present until this afternoon, so I have not had a lot of time to research. I have to ship it across the USA before Christmas, so I need to decide. I am hoping you guys can help me. My son is a big Madden fan. Is this Walmart deal a good bargain?

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=1930502&cat=37874&type=22&dept=2636&path=0%3A2636%3A37874

I am balking about the price. I know it's got an extra controller and the Madden game. Didn't I just read that Xboxes and other consoles are going for ~$150? Why am I paying twice that for this system? Anyone have a 100 off coupon I can borrow? ;)

I don't think you're saving any money. The PS2 typically goes for $200 new, Madden 2003 for $45 to $50 and the extra controller for $20. So, in essence, you're paying the standard price and getting a baseball cap as as extra.

Shop around on the web. You can do better. :)

If you've got a PSOne, N64, or Dreamcast and 15 extra games, EB is having a deal where you can trade in the console and games, and get $100 off an Xbox, GC, or PS2. I did this just the other day with a bunch of really old PS2 games I had copies of lying around and my 'first gen' PS1 (that thing was like seven years old!!!).

It was my wife's birthday, and she wanted DDRMAX for the PS2- she played it at a friend's house and thought it was soooo much easier to play/understand than our DC import. For Xmas, she's getting the Cobaltflux pad that Wumpy mentioned in the other thread.

I can't argue too much, because I just got Steel Battlion...

Yes, we're obsessives. :)

A console and 15 games for $100? What a rippoff. That's not worth it at all unless you completely hate video games. I imagine you could've gotten more off ebay.

Does it include the Official Sony Horizontal Stand from in the picture? Those things are about $25 each at gamestop, last I checked.. Because, you know, that's one high tech chunk of plastic!

I actually decided to ditch the EBAY PSone collection idea. Instead I picked by 15 favorite PSOne games and my PSOne w/LCD and kept them. The rest of everything I traded in.

I ended up with a new ps2 with an ESA (never know), memory card, pre-order on zelda for gamecube, s-video cable for ps2, and 7 games:

Spy Hunter
Summoner 2
Final Fantasy X
Armored Core 3
Klonoa 2
Wild Arms 3
Virtua Fighter 4

I still have money to spare. It was funny, the trade ins all at once crashed their computer since the volume was so high. I had to do two different trade ins. Unfortunately since I work at that store ill be doing all the work getting them filed in the backroom on monday. ARLKHER.

Holy crap. Nothing says "I love you" like a $270 dance pad. Aren't you going to get two? Or is this an implicit admission that you lack the requisite mad dancing skillz?

Seriously, let me know how that pad works out.

Looks legit on initial inspection.. be sure to read whatever fine print is there. I have purchased from overstock.com before with no problems though.

Geez, that's a shame, because you could have gotten substantially more for your software if you had sold it in lots on eBay. You know, there's a reason slimy car salesmen dangle that trade-in offer ..

It's a "reconditioned" machine, hence the discount.

Wouldn't bother me as long as the warranty was there.. and I think it is. But like I said, read the fine print.

Well, when you consider that the PS2 already plays PS1 games, that point is moot - I lost nothing in the transaction. I lost 15 games that I'll never play again- let me think if I can even name them... Riven, Blast Chamber, Fade to Black, Diablo (we had two copies, so we still have one), FF7 (ditto), Blood Omen: Legacy of Cain, Kings Field, Kings Field 2, The Game of LIFE!, Syndicate Wars, Magic Carpet, Tail of the Sun... The rest are to banal to even remember. Were they worth $100? EB seems to think so, and I didn't want to hassle with Ebay. I definately won in the tranaction. :D

Actually, I do have the 'mad dancing skillz', as you so... quaintly... put it, but $600 is a bit out of our price range.

She's playing right now (and I mean right now thump...thump... thump...) on an el cheapo MadCatz pad, but we may order another hard pad (one of the $100 ones) after christmas. Oh, and thanks for the link.

I guess the PSX being obselete with a PS2 in the house is the only thing that would make that deal worth it for me. To loose an entire system and games for $100 doesn't seem worth it. $100 is only two games, that's not quite worth the ability to go back and play old games (even briefly) for nostalgia's sake in 5 years.

I did the 15 game trade in deal today. Essentially it turns low value games into mid-value games. I ended up getting away with lots and lots of games and still kept a lot of my favorite psone games.

Consequently, I did turn in like 88 games and a psone ;)

The PS2 from overstock is what we have advertised on this site. If you go thru http://www.edailydeal.com and move down to the ps2 deal (it is in the archive), you can click and get an extra $5-10 off (depending on what coupon is going that week).

Guess this proves people really do ignore the banner ads.

Huh, I usually do scan the ads for stuff that I think might be worthwhile. But I have no idea which banner points to edailydeal.com, and there doesn't seem to even be that many different ads in the rotation (It's sort of sad that I know this). Further, I don't think I would have connected that an edailydeal banner would have offered a route to a low cost PS2.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input on where to pick up a cheap PS2. I was surprised that there really isn't much difference in price from vendor to vendor. Now that I think about it, I suppose that makes sense; it's not like a pc where you can pick different parts.
