I've been playing it non stop since it was unlocked and I just beat it. I played on Normal Mode, which seemed about right to me.

About the only thing I would change is ...

Make that air boat thing have shorter levels - I was all "yeh this fucking rocks" to "Dear God I hope the rest of the game doesn't drag on like this" pretty quick. I did love the buggy levels though.

I'm half hearted on the ending, but over all it wrapped up ok. I don't want to say too much - it's sort of a thing that everyone has to see for themselves.

I'm going to go pass out on my keyboard now :)

( For the record, I started at 7pm and it is now Lunch time (12pm) the following day. )

The only game I remember catassing recently was Call of Duty, but hell, CoD was definitely only a one piss-break game.

THAT A BOY, NUT! Get these other games out of the way so when it's time for Stalker, there will be nothing distracting us.

Man, why in the world would you do that? I'm always amazed at how some folks treat these excellent games as if they were 100 yard dashes. They want to blast through it as fast as possible instead of taking it slower and enjoying the ride. It's the journey man, not the destination!!!

He got seventeen hours out of it. That's not a speed run, that's a game he just couldn't put down. What's he supposed to do, shut off the computer and stalk it around the room like a cat with a chew toy?

I would like to play this HL2, but my rig cannot handle the modern FPS; Painkiller destroyed it like twice. I'll hold out until I can either afford a better computer or the console versions hit.

Well, if that "one day" amounted to 10 hours of entertainment he is getting 1 hour of entertainment per $5.50, which is about the same as what you get going to a movie these days (tickets are up to 11 dollars in some theaters I think). I'm guessing he got at least 15 hours out of it so he's ahead of the curve. Not counting future multiplayer, mods, yada yada. HL2 multiplayer will, if it is anything like its predecessor, have an insane shelf life.

Why does the game price per hour always brought up against the cost of going to a movie and not a restaurant, concert, or cable TV.

Why not? It's as useful a yardstick as any other.

How about this. The entertainment/hour ratio of Half Life 2 is far worse than what you get buying a used copy of Anna Karenina from a thrift shop for 25 cents! Oh my god! We are all getting ripped off! The game industry is totally broken and always has been since people have been paying 40-50 dollars per game for decades...

Incorrect - it is in fact everyone else who is having fun the wrong way . The way I played Half Life 2 was the most fun I've had with a game in a long time. Long time being years.

I planned to play like this - not to do a speed run and see how fast I could do everything, more of a marathon - I wanted it done in one sitting. I had my drinks, my snacks and my chair - I'd told everyone I know that could possibly interupt to leave me alone on that day. If I had played the way the rest of the world has played I would have heard some spoiler by now and stopped playing. It happened with many games before and it would have happened with Half Life 2.

I just finished about an hour ago.

All I can say is that the end area rocked my pants OFF. I now sit here pantsless. Take that as a warning.

While I would have liked more closure instead of trying to leave everything all x-files mystery like at least they didn't try and pull a Halo 2 on me. The last couple of levels with the enhanced gravity gun where worth the price of admission by itself. While I understand why they didnt give it to you till the end, I am definately looking forward to the mod where you can replay it with enhanced gravity gun from the beginning.

I won't even get started on the graphics except to say I was constantly suprised, and that's after reading again and again how amazing they where.

The last couple of levels with the enhanced....

Yeah, all the people who are playing the first couple hours and saying "There's nothing new in the gameplay!" are in for a surprise.

Plot Spoilers:

The way it all happened was beautiful too. As the prison cell sequence started, I was like, "Ahh, here is the part where they take away all your weapons and you have to earn them back again, like the first Half-Life did and has become standard in shooters since then." Then I noticed the gravity gun wasn't disintegrating, and then things got cool. Totally unpredictable plot twist but it was natural and the seeds were planted from early in the game.

I like the way they were conscious of the things Half-Life is famous for, and did them again but differently, instead of in the same old tired way. e.g. There *is* a "tram ride", but they do it near the end rather than at the beginning.

Spoilers..........

I'd imagine theres a fair chance we'll see Alyx (And perhaps Barney and Kleiner) in HL3? From the appearances of it she'd have to start working for the GMan, as I see no other way in which she'd survive the explosion.

Yeh I reckon so. I think HL3 will be the last in the series as well. Finally we'll meet who Gman is working for. I know he wasn't working for that Dr Breen guy - in fact I think the whole point of winding up in City 17 was to defeat Breen ( no one saw you get on the train at the start - when they realise you're there they try to kill you..even if Barney was expecting you.. etc ) . I guess we'll have to wait a few more years for that though.

It's more impressive than that.

24 hours of 24 is only about 16 hours (~40 minutes per episode), and not as interactive.

This guy put in 17 hours of play time, so I'd say that's pretty impressive.
